Air Travel Guide: Airlines & Airports

Whether you are an experienced frequent flyer or taking your first flight, this flight travel guide offers information about air travel.

Airlines: Choosing the Right Provider

The selection of the right airline is crucial for your travel experience. There is a suitable airline for every type of travel, every destination, and every travel budget. Sometimes you just have to look a little!

Our Tip: Compare, select routes (sometimes the indirect route is the cheapest), and double-check during the booking process.

Low-Cost vs. Traditionell

Many bookers believe that choosing a Low-Cost Airline is always the right choice. Low-cost airlines are often cheaper when looking at the pure airfare. However, they charge surcharges for baggage, seat reservation, and catering. With traditional airlines, many of these services are included in the ticket price.

Our Tip: If a route is served by multiple airlines, simply recalculate the total price. We are usually very surprised by the results.

A look at reviews regarding legroom, in-flight entertainment (IFE), and meal quality can sometimes also be the deciding factor for a booking.

We have also thought about where the best seat on the plane is located. More details can be found in our article, “The Best Seat on the Plane.”

Our Tip: Use frequent flyer programs and alliances (e.g., Star Alliance, SkyTeam, Oneworld) to collect miles and gain status benefits (Priority Boarding, lounge access).

Important! Watch out for the small print! There can sometimes be surprises here!

Corendon Airlines
Corendon Airlines put to the test: Nonstop from Hanover to the Red Sea

As soon as it gets cold and uncomfortable in Germany, our longing for warmth, sun, and sea increases. However, we don't want to fly "forever" and prefer to stay within the same time zone (with a deviation of 1 to 2 hours). Corendon Airlines flew us into the warmth!

Baggage Regulations: What can I bring?

Baggage rules are a frequent stress factor. It always seems to us as if every airline has its own regulations. And every time before a trip, we inform ourselves anew.

There are a few points you should definitely keep in mind:

  • Carry-on Baggage: Find out about the maximum permitted dimensions and weight for your airline’s carry-on baggage before departure. Observe the 100-ml rule for liquids in carry-on baggage.
  • Checked Baggage: Check how many pieces of luggage and what weight are included in your ticket to avoid expensive excess baggage fees at the counter.
  • Special Baggage: Are you traveling with sports equipment (skis, surfboard) or musical instruments? Register these in advance and find out about the special transport conditions and costs.

The Airport: What to Consider

Airports are often sheer horror for many travelers. But it’s actually easy to find your way around. Our motto: “Stay calm and read the signs.” We have always found the right way, even at huge airports.

For Emergencies: Delays and Cancellations

  • Passenger Rights (EU Regulation EC 261)
    • How do I best apply for my passenger rights?
  • Travel Insurance: Good travel insurance can cover the costs of non-refundable flights, medical emergencies, or lost luggage.
