The Welcome Card Innsbruck is one of two tourist cards that Innsbruck offers its visitors. This card is issued by various accommodations to guests staying at least 2 nights in the city.
The Welcome Card Innsbruck offers visitors to the region a wide range of benefits, including free use of public transport. This card is available in both summer and winter. The varied offer enables guests to explore the region conveniently and inexpensively.
Where can you get the Welcome Card Innsbruck?
This tourist card is issued free of charge by participating landlords and hotels for stays of at least 2 nights.
I particularly like the fact that landlords have been given the opportunity to send the card to guests by email before they check in. This allows travelers to take advantage of free transport as soon as they arrive at the train station or airport.
The Welcome Card is valid from the time it is issued after check-in until midnight on the day of departure.
Advantages of the Welcome Card Innsbruck
Public transport
The Welcome Card gives you free travel on public transport in the city and region of Innsbruck.
This includes all lines of the Verkehrsverbund Tirol (VVT) and the Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe (IVB) as well as the regional trains of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) within the Innsbruck region.
The card also includes special bus routes such as the Swarovski Kristallwelten shuttle bus and the panoramic route to Igls on streetcar line 6.
In winter, this includes use of the ski buses. The ski bus goes to the TOP ski areas of the Olympia Skiworld.
City bike Innsbruck
Guests can use the Innsbruck city bike free of charge for 24 hours.
Free guided hikes
In summer, there are weekly guided hiking tours throughout the Innsbruck region, which are included with the Welcome Card.
Weekly guided e-bike tours are also available.
In winter, free guided winter hikes and snowshoe tours are offered.
Discounts for swimming pools and lakes
There are numerous discounts for swimming pools and bathing lakes, including a 50% discount on admission to various facilities such as the Axams leisure center, Telfer Bad, Natterer See, Mutters outdoor pool, Untermieming bathing lake and Barwies forest swimming pool.
Free admission to museums, sights and events
One free entry to all museums and sights in the Innsbruck region is included.
There are discounts on various cultural events such as the Innsbruck Promenade Concerts, Tyrolean Evening, Innsbruck Festival of Early Music and many more.
Sports activities
Discounts at bouldering and climbing centers ‘Bergstation’ Telfs and various golf clubs around Innsbruck offer discounts.
In winter, the cross-country ski trails can be used free of charge. On the Seefeld plateau, the cross-country ski ticket is reduced by 50%. Some selected ice rinks are also available free of charge.
What cards are there?
There are two different cards:
- Welcome Card – for two overnight stays
- Welcome Card Plus – for stays of three nights or more
Guests staying three nights or more are offered additional services. In summer, there is the additional option of one free ascent and descent on each of the four cable cars. In winter you can take a free ascent and descent with the cable car in Oberperfuss. When using the Nordkettenbahnen and Patscherkofelbahn cable cars, you receive a 20% discount on one ticket.
The Welcome Card is not comparable with the Innsbruck Card. The Innsbruck Card can be purchased for a fee and offers free admission, numerous discounts and reductions. Its validity is not linked to the length of stay or the number of nights spent in the city.
Should I ask for the Welcome Card at my accommodation?
Absolutely!
Of course, your landlord may not be participating in the Welcome Card program. But perhaps your interest in the card will make them realize what added value they can offer their guests.
Landlords who already offer the cards sometimes forget to issue them in the stress of their daily work. This is certainly not intentional and a friendly request will help.
However, most landlords give the Welcome Card to their guests at check-in without asking and are happy to explain the benefits of the card. We stayed at the Stage 12 Hotel by Penz during our time in Innsbruck and received the Welcome Card Innsbruck there.
