Nestled between the gentle slopes of the Chiemgau Alps and the majestic Kaiser mountains, directly in the small town of Walchsee, lies the Walchsee Aktivresort. For us, it was the perfect starting point for a stay in the Kaiserwinkl region.
The Walchsee has two locations, separated by just a few meters. The Aktivresort is the main building. It is centrally located on the main road through Walchsee, just a few minutes’ walk from the lake shore. This is where most of the 88 rooms and the expansive 3,000 m² “Move & Relax” wellness area are located. The Walchsee Lakeside is situated directly on the water. Here, you can stay in luxurious suites that offer a panoramic view of the lake and mountains. It features private lake access with its own jetty. Guests of both buildings can enjoy the amenities of the entire resort.
Holidays at the Walchsee Aktivresort
We stayed at the Walchsee Aktivresort during our trip to Kaiserwinkl and felt very comfortable. The staff was always very friendly. We arrived at the hotel in the early morning. Of course, check-in wasn’t possible yet at that time. But they offered us the use of the wellness area and also stored our luggage. A great service, however, we were drawn to the Schwemm, a moorland area just a 30-minute walk away.

In the late afternoon, we were then able to check into our room.
Room Type: Deluxe “Zahmer Kaiser”
The Deluxe “Zahmer Kaiser” room is a double room located on the street side of the hotel. It has a large balcony with seating. Sleeping with the window open was not a problem for us. The traffic becomes much quieter towards the evening, and since we got up quite early, it didn’t bother us in the morning hours. It’s simply wonderful to stand on the balcony in the morning and enjoy the view. It almost doesn’t matter what the sky looks like.

The room was quite large and equipped with a comfortable box-spring bed. Standard amenities include a flat-screen TV with cable and radio, as well as free Wi-Fi. The wardrobe offered enough storage space to accommodate clothing for a varied holiday. I found the bathroom with the walk-in shower to be very nice.

A detail that really surprised me: I discovered a balance cushion in the bathroom. These foam cushions are used, for example, in rehabilitation or preventative sports. They are used to train balance and coordination. To ensure guests have tips on how to use it, there was a sticker with exercises in the bathroom in our room. These exercises were simple basics that can be easily imitated even by inexperienced vacationers.
Culinary Energy: A Treat for Body and Soul
The resort’s gastronomic philosophy, the “Energy Cuisine,” focuses on regional, fresh, and nutritious dishes. We had half-board, which included breakfast and dinner.
The day begins with a rich breakfast buffet, offered from 7:30 to 10:00 in the restaurant. A health corner, live cooking stations, and a selection of hot and cold dishes ensure the perfect start. I particularly liked the wide selection of cereals and nuts. Fresh fruit was also available and enhanced my start to the day.
Dinner is served as a buffet or a set menu. One day, we had the menu option. This meant that the main course was served at our table. We had to choose one of three main courses already at breakfast. The appetizers and desserts were still available in buffet form.

To be honest, I didn’t particularly like this dinner option. Apart from having to decide at breakfast what I would be in the mood for in the evening, I also couldn’t determine the portion size myself. This way, you automatically eat more than you want to – who likes sending food back? Additionally, the service wasn’t quite as smooth that evening as usual. We had ordered one dish with beef and one with pork. The waiter placed a plate in front of each of us without asking. When asked which was the pork dish, he swapped the plates, mentioned something about mashed potatoes with pork (the menu said polenta), and disappeared. I would say there is room for improvement.
The two evenings with the buffet were different. There was a salad selection, always two soups, and various main course options. Additionally, several desserts and ice cream were offered. I have never seen such a large selection of oils and vinegars in any other hotel restaurant – superb. My highlight, however, were the warm, sweet desserts like strudel or crumble. For me, the buffet option in the evening is more enjoyable, but other vacationers surely also enjoy having their food served at the table.

The “Move & Relax” Area
The centerpiece of the Walchsee Aktivresort is the 3,000 m² wellness area.
On our very first day, we were drawn to the pool area. An indoor and outdoor pool, connected by a channel, invite you to swim with a mountain view. The water was pleasantly warm, and even with children playing in the pool, you could still swim wonderfully or relax by the poolside.

There are sun loungers around the outdoor pool. In good weather, you can relax here. There are also some loungers in the indoor area, which, however, didn’t appeal to me as much.

I think it’s very nice that there is a family sauna in the pool area (to be used with swimwear). It was eagerly used by the guests. We also used this sauna and ended our day in a relaxed way.
There is another sauna landscape (in the nude area) that is for adults only. A Finnish sauna, a bio-sauna, a steam bath, and an infrared cabin are available.

Those seeking even more relaxation can book numerous different massage offers or a cosmetic treatment. The selection is large, and if you can’t decide, you surely have another appointment free during your holiday.

The Aktivresort also has a gym. In the partner building, Lakeside, there is an additional state-of-the-art fitness studio with innovative equipment. A weekly activity program with free courses such as yoga (sometimes on the lake jetty), Pilates, and aqua fitness completes the offer.
