On the road in Vienna with the Vienna City Card

During our stay in Vienna, we were able to take advantage of the Vienna City Card. We don’t often travel with a card of this type during our city trips. This is not because of the offer that these cards provide, it is more because of the nature of our trips.

Often we spend 2-3 days more on site, because we can not spend the whole day with sightseeing. However, the use of a City Card is limited in time and then a City Card is often not worthwhile for us if we only use the means of transport and visit, for example, a museum during the day.
However, if we are only traveling in a city for a weekend, we are very happy to take advantage of this type of offer. Discover a lot in a short time, be mobile and save a little on entrance fees. That’s tempting.

But nevertheless, I advise everyone to check the offer of each city card in advance and compare it with their own sightseeing wishes. Do you really save anything?

In Vienna we were able to try out the Vienna City Card and for us it was definitely worth it.

Vienna City Card

Use of public transportation

Our hotel was not directly in the inner city area of Vienna and so it was just great for us to be able to use the public transport for free with the card. No annoying ticket purchase and, as in any unfamiliar city, dealing with the fare system and zones. Simply stamped the Vienna City Card and we were mobile for 72 hours.

We really made good use of this Vienna City Card offer. Whether trips with the metro, the tram or the bus – it often saved us a lot of walking and we went to a place we might not have visited otherwise. Even on the return trip to the airport, we were able to save some money on the CAT express train.

Museums and sightseeing

Of course, it is ideal if you orient your Vienna program to the offers of the Vienna City Card. Then you can be sure to make the most of the price reductions offered by the card. Whether a visit to Schönbrunn or one of the city’s many museums, there are many offers to be found in the accompanying booklet or app. Fortunately, the addresses and opening hours of the offers are also in the little book, so you can plan your day ideally.

We did it a little differently during our stay in Vienna. We picked out a few places beforehand that we would like to discover. To my delight, there was also the possibility to use the card there and thus save on entrance fees. For example, we went to the Third man museum, the Capuchin crypt, the Architecture Center Vienna and the Danube Tower.

Further advantages of the Vienna City Card

If you take a closer look at the Vienna City Card, you will find some interesting offers for exploring the city. Whether on foot, by boat, tram, bus, Segway or Fiaker – different tours with different discounts are offered. Actually ideal to get a first impression of Vienna.

If you have time for more Vienna adventures besides exploring the city, you’ll find concerts, sporting events and shopping deals that offer some discounts. Not to forget that you can also get culinary offers from free drinks to discounts on food for some selected restaurants when using the Vienna City Card.

For us, the Vienna City Card was an ideal addition during this vacation. We took advantage of some offers and were happy about the small discounts, which we spent again elsewhere.

The Vienna City Card was provided to us free of charge by the Vienna Tourist Board. Thank you very much! This article was written independently and corresponds to our experiences.
