The cozy Hotel Elisabeth is located in the heart of Mechelen’s old town. A hotel has been created in a former hospital, where today nothing reminds you of its former use and where you can enjoy your stay.
We took the bus from the main train station directly to the front door of the hotel. A very comfortable journey, even with some luggage. After a very friendly welcome, we were able to deposit our luggage at the hotel and after a 5-minute walk we arrived at the city’s landmark, St. Romuald’s Cathedral. We only returned to the hotel in the evening to check into our room.

The Oud Huys studio is also ideal for longer stays, with similar amenities to the Elisabeth Studio.
We stayed in a room on the second floor. It was very comfortably furnished, had a comfortable bed for us and we were able to enjoy the view of the cathedral. Especially in the evening, when the tower was illuminated, it was a wonderful view. The Wi-Fi worked perfectly during our time at Hotel Elisabeth and we were even able to get some work done.
Start to the day
If you prefer, you can also book breakfast in the morning in addition to your overnight stay. It is available for hotel guests from 7 am.
Our tip: It’s worth having breakfast at the hotel. The selection at the breakfast buffet was very good. From sweet to savory, fruit, muesli, juices, tea, coffee – everyone should find something here.
My personal highlight was the waffle iron. Here I could bake my own fresh Belgian waffles and enjoy them plain or with different toppings. It was the perfect way to start the day!
How about a sporty start to the day? The Hotel Elisabeth offers its guests a small swimming pool that is open from 7am. From the breakfast room I could see some guests swimming their lengths there. I was there in the evening (open until 11pm) and was lucky enough to be able to swim a few laps alone in the pleasant lighting.
Would we come back?
We definitely would. We were impressed by Hotel Elisabeth not only because of its good location, but also because of the service, the room and the breakfast. For us, it was the perfect place to relax after many great experiences in Mechelen.

How to find the hotel
By car
Mechelen is well connected to the road network. The city center is traffic-calmed. At the beginning of each traffic-calmed zone there is a traffic sign with the inscription: “NO TRANSIT AT CERTAIN HOURS AND ONLY FOR AUTHORIZED PERSONS”. This is recognizable by a traffic sign ‘C3’ with a list of exceptions underneath. If you pass this traffic sign during the restricted hours without permission, your license plate will be captured by the camera and you will receive a fine of 58 euros.
By public transport
Mechelen has a train station that is well connected to other Belgian cities. Hotel Elisabeth is easy to reach from the station, either on foot or by taking a short cab or bus ride.
On foot
Due to its proximity to the city center, Hotel Elisabeth is also easily accessible on foot if you are already in Mechelen or park nearby.
Parking
Guests who appreciate the convenience of a parking space directly under the hotel should first report to reception. Your license plate number will be registered there and you will be allocated a numbered parking space. The parking fee is 24 euros for 24 hours.
The vehicle must be removed from the parking garage by 14:00 at the latest on the day of departure.
It is recommended to drive to the center of Mechelen via Sint-Katelijnestraat. The streets Sint-Janstraat and Sint-Jansklooster as well as the Van Hoeystraat are a traffic-calmed zone from 11:00 to 18:00.
The registration of the license plate only applies to Van Hoeystraat, as this is where the parking garage is located. There is no access via the other streets.
