The journey of discovery begins in the lively piazzas and under the miles of arcades that are so characteristic of Bologna. These not only offer protection from the elements, but also tell a lot about the city’s history. The medieval towers, Torre degli Asinelli and Torre Garisenda, offer breathtaking views over the rooftops of the city and are a must-see on any city trip to Bologna.

Gastronomically, Bologna is a true heaven on earth. Known as “La Grassa” (The Fat One), the city offers an incomparable selection of culinary delights. From the classic Bolognese sauce, which originated here, to freshly made tortellini, mortadella and Parmigiano Reggiano – every meal is a feast for the senses. The lively markets such as the Mercato di Mezzo or the Quadrilatero region entice visitors with fresh, local produce straight from the producers.
City trip Bologna – Tips
Unfortunately, we did not have much time to discover Bologna in more detail. We were in the city for a good 24 hours and have discovered some beautiful places that make you want to plan a longer stay. We would like to briefly present our Bologna tips.
Not only Pisa has a leaning tower, Bologna even has two leaning towers -Torre Garisenda and Torre Asinelli. Both towers are considered landmarks of the city.

Arrival
By plane
Bologna airport is not far from the city. From the city centre it takes about 20 minutes by taxi. The express bus “Aerobus” runs between the airport and the main railway station.
Several low-cost airlines fly to Bologna airport.
By train
The main railway station, Bologna Centale, is located in the city centre. Trains leave for Bologna from almost all major Italian cities. Fast trains connect the city with Milan or Florence in less than 40 minutes.
By bus
The bus station is the meeting point for many national and international bus connections. Most suburban buses also go to the Autostazione di Bologna.
By car
The city is connected to the Italian toll motorway network.

On foot
Even though the city centre is larger than many other Italian towns, it is very easy to discover on foot. As many pedestrian walkways are covered with arcades, you are well protected from the sun and rain.
By bike
There are numerous cycle paths in the city. Attention! Lock up your bikes well, they are often stolen!
By bus
From the main station, buses run in a star pattern throughout the city. Tickets should be bought in advance at Tabako or at special advance booking offices. They are cheaper there than from the bus driver.
By car
The area inside the former city walls is under video surveillance and only residents are allowed to enter by car. There is a ticket for €5 at a Trasporto Passeggeri Emilia-Romagna (TPER) outlet that authorises entry.

Spring (March to May)
In March, average temperatures are around 10°C to 15°C and rise to more pleasant levels of 15°C to 25°C in May. Spring brings a moderate number of rainy days, averaging around 8 to 10 days per month.
Summer (June to August)
Summers are warm to hot with average temperatures of 20°C to 30°C, with July and August being the hottest months. The high temperatures and humidity can be particularly stressful in the city centers. However, the evenings are pleasantly warm. Despite the heat, there are relatively few rainy days in summer, averaging around 5 to 8 days per month.
Fall (September to November)
In the fall, temperatures gradually drop from a pleasant 20°C to 25°C in September to a cooler 10°C to 15°C in November. Autumn is known for its increased rainfall, especially in November, with an average of 9 to 11 rainy days per month.
Winter (December to February)
Winters are cool with temperatures usually between 0°C and 10°C. Similar to fall, there are a moderate number of rainy days in winter, averaging 7 to 10 days per month.
Snow is rare in Bologna, but colder temperatures are common.
