Hôtel Oui GO! in Trois-Rivières: Our overnight stay in the vault room

We thought Trois-Rivières would just be a quick stopover on our road trip through Quebec. But the city surprised us—and our hotel in Trois-Rivières was the first highlight. We actually stayed at the “Hôtel Oui GO!”, a unique boutique hotel in a former bank building. And the best part: our room was the old bank vault!

A Hotel in Trois-Rivières with History

Trois-Rivières is the second oldest French-speaking city in North America. This heritage isn’t just hidden away in museums, but can be experienced at every turn in the historic district (Old Trois-Rivières), which attracts visitors with its architecture, historical plaques, and monuments. The Hôtel Oui GO! defines itself as a boutique experience housed in a building of recognized historical significance. It is located in a former bank dating back to 1909.

A street-level view of the historic Oui GO! Hotel in Trois-Rivières, featuring two adjoining multi-story stone and brick buildings with arched windows on a wet, rainy day.

Converting a historical building into a modern hotel brings charming, but inevitable, architectural compromises. For example, there are a few stairs to navigate here and there, and the hotel corridors were a bit winding.

We had read in advance in reviews that some rooms were dark or the view wasn’t good. Honestly: with a city hotel right in the middle of the historic center, we expect a view of the city and other buildings. If you want a river view, you have to book a hotel right on the river.

Rooms & Comfort: What is it Like Sleeping in a Vault?

The Hôtel Oui GO! is a hotel with 28 rooms. It offers four main categories tailored to different budgets and needs:

  • Régulière: Described as “The affordable plan for every budget”.
  • Classique: “The plan that fits everyone”.
  • Supérieure: “The plan for the traveler who wants more”.
  • Supérieure Deluxe: Designed as “The plan for longer stays”.
A hotel room in Trois-Rivières features a light-colored wooden desk with a grey office chair, a landline phone, and a television mounted on a teal accent wall. Next to the desk is a charcoal grey armchair with a chevron-patterned pillow, positioned under a tall floor lamp.

Our Experience in the “Vault Room” (Supérieure Room Category)

The core promise of the establishment lies in combining the authenticity of the past with modern chic. That’s no marketing fluff; we slept in a former vault. The door to the adjacent utility room was actually still the massive vault door!

A modern hotel room at the Trois-Rivières hotel features a neatly made bed with white linens and a brown headboard, positioned beneath an arched mirror and flanked by minimalist pendant lights.

The walls were extremely thick, and it was certainly a strange but cool feeling knowing that safety deposit boxes with valuables once stood here. Our room was on the 2nd floor and was really large and very comfortably furnished. Thanks to the comfortable king-size beds and the thick, soundproof walls, we slept wonderfully.

Amenities & the Pitfalls of the Wi-Fi

Standard room amenities include free Wi-Fi, soundproofing, hypoallergenic bedding, in-room safes, air conditioning, an espresso machine, and a refrigerator.

An important note about the Wi-Fi: due to the massive walls, the free Wi-Fi in our “vault room” was not particularly good.

A heavy, black vault door with a large handle and dial serves as a room entrance at a hotel in Trois-Rivières, positioned next to a white wall with the room number "207" illuminated by a small light.

The Perfect Location in the Heart of “Old Trois-Rivières”

The undeniable unique selling point of the hotel is its location “au coeur du centre-ville” (in the heart of the city center). It is situated in the immediate vicinity of lively terraces, the historic district, and just a few minutes’ walk from the convention center and, of course, the museums and restaurants.

The hotel serves as a perfect base camp for exploring the historic district. Within a 5 to 10-minute walking radius are:

  • Manoir Boucher de Niverville
  • Musée québécois de culture populaire (POP Museum)
  • Vieille prison de Trois-Rivières (Old Prison)
  • Musée des Ursulines
  • Port of Trois-Rivières
  • Palais des congrès de Trois-Rivières (Convention Center)

Parking at the Hotel: How It Works (IMPORTANT!)

Two criteria were important to us when booking: a central location and parking. The Hôtel Oui GO! fulfills both, albeit with a quirk: the hotel does not have parking directly on-site.

A tourist map of Trois-Rivières shows a black arrow indicating a walking route from Rue Notre-Dame Centre, past Parc du Sacré-Coeur, to a parking area near the Hôtel Gouverneur. The map highlights various landmarks, parks, and streets within the historic Vieux Trois-Rivières district along the St. Lawrence River.

The process, however, is well-organized:

  • Pre-book: You should definitely reserve a parking spot along with your room.
  • Arrival: We briefly stopped in the parking zone in front of the hotel to drop off our suitcases at the reception.
  • Parking Card: We received a map and a parking card for entry and exit to a public, managed parking lot located just about 300 m away.
  • Cost: Payment is made at the hotel. Expect around 7 to 10 CAD per day (plus taxes).

Alternative: Free street parking is generally available between 6:00 PM and 9:00 AM.

Hotel Ambiance

In the evening, we finally had some time to look around the lobby. There are “museum alcoves” here that exhibit artifacts from the region and a historic bank vault. I found it very exciting to learn more about the history of the building and the city here.

The lobby of the Hotel Trésor in Trois-Rivières features a teal wall decorated with bank-themed memorabilia, including a vintage Banque Nationale clock, a calendar set to January 1st, and a large, weathered circular vault door embedded in the wall.

Breakfast and Lunch at “Le Bistroquet”

The hotel has its own restaurant, “Le Bistroquet”. It offers an “à la carte” breakfast or a “made-to-order” breakfast. It is not included in the standard room rate. We didn’t test the breakfast as we preferred a nearby café. Le Bistroquet is also open for lunch.

Our Conclusion: Is the Hôtel Oui GO! in Trois-Rivières Worth It?

For us, the Hôtel Oui GO! was a real highlight. If you are looking for a run-of-the-mill hotel, this is the wrong place for you. But if you are looking for a hotel in Trois-Rivières with character, history, and an unbeatably central location, it is an absolute recommendation. Sleeping in the vault room was a unique experience that we wouldn’t want to miss.

Parking

Parking

The hotel does not have on-site parking. This is a direct consequence of its central location and historic building status.

However, the hotel offers an organized, paid solution:

Pre-booking: Parking must be pre-booked.
Process: Guests first stop in front of the hotel to check in and unload their luggage.
At the reception desk, they receive a parking card (“passe”).
This card grants access to a public parking lot located “a few blocks away,” approximately 300 meters away.
Cost: The fee for this parking lot is approximately CAD 7 to CAD 10 per day, plus tax.

Alternative: Free street parking is usually available between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m.
