From Karlovy Vary it is just about 25 kilometers to Bečov nad Teplou. There is a small motorcycle museum here, which is ideal for a trip to the surrounding area.
We stopped in Bečov nad Teplou on the way to Pilsen to discover the small town with its castle and motorcycle museum. If you arrive by car, you’ll find a larger paid and inexpensive parking lot below the castle. In the village itself, it is difficult to find a place for the car.
The museum is located in the former courthouse in the central square of the village. In the building you can also visit a small toy museum. The motorcycle museum is located on the second floor.
Visit to the motorcycle museum
We were in the small museum shortly before the lunch break. The woman working there had not really expected visitors. She was just about to lock up and leave. But visitors at opening time can not be left in front of a closed door. So the museum was opened again for us.
In Bečov nad Teplou is the branch of the largest exhibition of historical motorcycles in the Czech Republic. The main branch is located in Železná Ruda. In total, more than 170 motorcycle parts, 80 historical bicycles and also some cars are exhibited at both locations. We tried to talk to the woman working there. But since she doesn’t speak German or English and we don’t speak Czech, it was a bit difficult. If I understood her correctly, the collection has been gathered by a private person. There are about 50 historical vehicles in this branch.
We are not so the connoisseurs of the motorcycle scene, but nevertheless, the old vehicles really excited me. Unique specimens are shown that are no longer to be found, such as the JAC500 or a Wagner motorcycle.
I was impressed by the longest manufactured motorcycle in the world, on which 3 people could ride comfortably.
Those who are more interested in bicycles will find some historic bikes in the museum. In addition to racing bicycles, there were also motor-driven bicycles. I do not want to know how loud these engines are and how hot they became during use.
We think that you should visit the motorcycle museum. Afterwards, it is also worth taking a look at the castle complex of the city.
