Marienbad: More than just a spa town
Marienbad (Mariánské Lázně) is world-famous for its healing mineral springs and magnificent colonnades. Today, the city is no longer just a destination for traditional spa vacationers, but a popular vacation destination.
This elegant city in the heart of the Bohemian Spa Triangle has developed into a diverse travel destination that delights active vacationers, culture enthusiasts, and history buffs alike with its history, impressive architecture, wide range of cultural offerings, and picturesque natural landscapes.
A stroll through Marienbad is like a journey back to the golden age of the 19th century. Beautiful classicist and neo-baroque buildings dominate the townscape, while spacious parks add a touch of greenery. The cast-iron main colonnade is one of the architectural highlights. Together with the “singing fountain,” which plays music every odd hour, it forms the heart of the city. Historic churches such as the Orthodox St. Vladimir’s Church and the Roman Catholic Deanery Church of the Assumption round off the cityscape.

Marienbad has always been a magnet for famous personalities from the worlds of art, culture, and politics. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Frédéric Chopin, Mark Twain, and King Edward VII of England are just a few of the most famous guests who have visited the town. The town museum, located in the oldest house in the spa district, provides insights into this glorious past. Composer Frédéric Chopin, who spent a summer in Mariánské Lázně in 1836, has his own museum and an annual music festival dedicated to him. The town theater also offers a varied program of opera, operetta, and drama.
Nestled in the rolling hills of the Kaiserwald forest, the surroundings of Marienbad offer ideal conditions for nature lovers and active vacationers. An extensive network of hiking and cycling trails leads through dense forests, past idyllic ponds and to impressive vantage points such as the Hamelika Tower.
Marienbad’s central location in the spa triangle makes it an ideal starting point for exploring the region. The world-famous spa towns of Karlovy Vary and Františkovy Lázně are only a short trip away.
