Central Hotel in Plzeň: My experience at the ‘Hotel Central’ on Republic Square

Anyone looking for a central hotel in Plzeň can hardly ignore this place: Hotel Central truly lives up to its name. But is booking a room worth it? I have already been there twice and experienced a robot at breakfast, magnificent views, and the charm of the 90s in the rooms.

In the Heart of the City: The Location

The location is unbeatable. The hotel is situated right on the historic Náměstí Republiky (Republic Square). Anyone staying here is truly “right in the middle of it all”. As soon as you step out the door, you are standing in front of St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral. All major sights are within a few minutes’ walking distance. For a city trip, this location is worth its weight in gold.

The Rooms: Clean, but a Journey Back in Time

The 4-star hotel has 77 rooms. To say it right away: During my two stays (within 3 years), I booked the cheapest category each time. My impression remained the same on both visits: The standard in the “Economy” class is very, very basic. Although the rooms are absolutely clean, the furniture looks quite worn out and exudes little coziness.

• The Single Room: The standard in this room was very basic. The furniture was quite worn out but clean. My impression back then: okay for one night, but I wouldn’t have wanted to stay any longer.
• The Double Room: My first impression two years later: Nothing has changed. The very clean room was significantly larger than the single room. There was a sofa with a glass table in the front area of the room and two single beds pushed together (with a huge gap between the beds) in the back area. The quality of the furniture was once again very sobering. Everything was still very worn out and not particularly cozy.

My Tip: If you value modern design, you should not choose the cheapest category. On the website, the renovated room categories look much more appealing and modern. If you, like us, only use the room for sleeping, you will get clean but simple accommodation here.

The Highlight: Breakfast with “Bella”

What the rooms lack in modernity, the gastronomy makes up for. A huge plus point is the rich breakfast. The selection and quality of the food convinced me. However, the secret star of the morning was “Bella”. The friendly serving robot, whizzing through the tables and assisting the staff, was simply fantastic. A funny detail that puts a smile on your face. Speaking of the staff: The employees were consistently nice, helpful, and multilingual (English, sometimes also German).

Rooftop Terrace & Wellness

The hotel features a restaurant and a bar. I would particularly like to recommend the rooftop terrace to every visitor to the city. From up here, you have a fantastic view over Republic Square and the roofs of the city. Simply perfect for a photo or a relaxing moment.

What not everyone knows: The rooftop terrace is accessible by elevator from the hotel lobby. Since the restaurant and bar are open to the public, you can go up without any problems.

Additionally, there is a wellness area and a fitness center, which I personally did not use, however.
