Plzen offers its visitors a wide range of restaurants in all price ranges. Cheap food in Plzen is possible not only outside the historic city center, even there you can find restaurants frequented by Czechs, where the price level is not exaggerated.
Cheap food in Plzen our tips:
Pizzeria Da Pietro
Right next to the historical old town is the green area of Mestský Park. There are several restaurants and pubs here. On our first day in Plzen we were craving for a really good pizza and chose the first pizzeria we could find.

In the Pizzeria Da Pietro you can sit outside, it was really crowded and we were lucky to get a free table.
The cheapest pizza costs about 6.50€, the most expensive is about 11.50€.

The two pizzas we ate there were very good. A thick edge, a soft base and lots of toppings made us feel full very quickly.

Restaurant “LÉKÁRNA”
Directly on Republic Square with a view of the beautiful church is the restaurant “LÉKÁRNA”. There is a small terrace with a few seats, so you can sit outside.

I had a really big salad here and Patrick had a chicken dish. The food was very good. Price-wise, the dishes range from about 7€ to about 15€, which is quite in line with the quality of the food.

While we ate here and enjoyed a Pilsner Urquell, we could watch the hustle and bustle on Republic Square. We liked it and tasted it.

Sweet and savory from Malinova
In Plzen there is a bakery chain with several stores. A few times we walked past it and saw that there were delicious looking cakes, cookies, breads… displayed. One day I could no longer resist and I went inside.

I took two sweet little cakes / cookies with lots of poppy seeds and pudding and a savory but quite dry slightly salty pita.
Everything was very good and it was hard for me the next few days not to go there again.
Cheap food in Plzen: Raven City Pub
In a smaller street we came across the City Pub of Raven. There were some free tables on the sidewalk and so we decided to have dinner there.
The price maps are on the table, you have to order and pay in the pub. You take the beer with you, and the food is brought to your table.

Cheap food in Plzen you can really eat here. We had nachos and a burger. You can’t go wrong with nachos and the burger was a dream – great sauces, pulled pork and a good bun. The portions were huge. The price/quality ratio was great and we felt very comfortable in the casual atmosphere.

Švejk Restaurant
Švejk restaurant belongs to a chain of restaurants. We had already eaten once in a restaurant of this provider and so we knew what we would get to eat there.
The restaurant is located in the historic center of Plzen. But if you think that only tourists eat here, you are wrong. While we were sitting on the outdoor terrace, only Czechs were there.

Patrick chose a typical Czech meal – meat with dumpling. The meat was tender, a great sauce and a not too firm dumpling at a good price was served to him.

I ordered a schnitzel without any side dish. Much to the amazement of the waiter, who asked three times if I really wanted only the meat. But I had consciously chosen so and the meat was really fried exactly to the point. My highlight, however, was my dessert. Dumplings filled with nougat and vanilla sauce!!!! A dream. I think I could feed myself in the long run.

Chlebíčky – Czech canapés
Even before our trip to the Czech Republic, we had Chlebíčky on our To Do to try. The small slices of bread have been on offer for about 100 years and are one of the insider tips.
Chlebíčky is made of long wheat bread that is topped and garnished. Probably the most typical chlebíčky is the ham canapé – šunkový chlebíček. A layer of potato salad is placed on top of the bread, followed by an artfully folded slice of ham and a hard-boiled egg, a pickled cucumber and a strip of pickled red pepper. Really very good!
There are also variations with, for example, cheese, salami, roast beef, egg, shrimp or salmon.

We got some really good tasting Chlebíčky in Plzen and ate it on a bench during a walk. A nice alternative to a big lunch and good cheap food in Plzen.
