Plzen is an interesting and underrated city in Czechia. Most visitors come to the city because they associate it with beer and, indeed, often only discover the beer in the city.
Many visitors come to Plzen primarily for its world-famous beer and the impressive cathedral. However, the city has far more to offer than the well-known highlights like the Pilsner Urquell Brewery or the market square with St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral. Off the beaten path, charming spots and real hidden gems are waiting to be discovered.
Lochotín Park, located in the north of the city, is a green oasis that is overlooked by many tourists. Here, you can not only go for wonderful walks but also discover interesting sculptures scattered throughout the park. Especially in spring and summer, the park is an ideal retreat to enjoy a picnic or simply experience nature.

The Roudná district, located north of the city center, is one of Plzen’s oldest areas and an insider tip for anyone seeking authentic flair and historical architecture. Stroll through the narrow streets, discover small, family-run restaurants, and enjoy the tranquility away from the main tourist attractions. A walk along the Mže River, which flows through the district, is particularly beautiful.
The DEPO2015 cultural center is a must-see for all lovers of modern art and alternative culture. Originally an old tram depot, DEPO2015 was transformed into a vibrant meeting place for artists and creatives during Pilsen’s time as the European Capital of Culture in 2015. Art exhibitions, workshops, concerts, and even street food festivals regularly take place here. Especially charming: The inner courtyard often features temporary installations or pop-up events that always offer a surprise.
