Hotel Sarbacher – starting point for great excursions in the Northern Black Forest
Between Bad Wildbad and Enzklösterle, the Kaltenbronner Straße leads uphill to the Hotel Sarbacher, which is nestled between the slopes of the Northern Black Forest.
The hotel is an ideal starting point for hiking tours in the Kaltenbronn landscape. Only about 2.3 kilometers away is the Wildsee lake in the high moor on the Kaltenbronn. So it is not surprising that the parking lots around the hotel were very well filled and in the restaurant parlor in the early afternoon there was a lot of activity. Towards evening, this changed quite quickly. Only the overnight guests were still on site and hardly a car drove past the house. A dreamlike silence!
Overnight stay at Hotel Sarbacher
The hotel offers rooms in different equipment and price range. Each room is individually furnished, from wicker furniture to massive farmhouse wardrobe you can find very different room designs, which provide a cozy ambience for a longer stay.
Our room (number 11) was on the top floor of the hotel and was accessible via the stairs. A cozy room with wooden furniture painted in peasant style. Many windows made the room bright and the lightly running heating drove away the cold of the autumn nights.
The rocking chair was quickly my favorite, but the sitting area was also very comfortable.
We slept wonderfully. From time to time we heard the deer roar from the neighboring game preserve and only towards morning the first cars drove past the hotel. Since we woke up in time, we could admire the sunrise over the mountains from the window in the morning.
I can especially praise the breakfast buffet. The selection of different types of cereals, nuts, coconut chips… for me simply a dream. The rolls were fresh and the selection of cold cuts and sweet spreads great. The coffee tasted, so a day can begin!
Both evenings we ate in the restaurant of the hotel. A very good decision! The game dishes are excellent. The meat was tender and tasted great. It was accompanied by a beer from the region.
Tips for excursions in the Northern Black Forest
If you stay at the hotel in winter (and if there is enough snow), you can ski directly behind the house. A ski lift takes you up a slope. On the opposite side is a toboggan hill. Sledges can be rented if necessary.
A children’s adventure trail, the “Troll Trail”, begins not far from the hotel. Here children can roam over hill and dale through the undergrowth and complete small tasks. On the 2.5 km long Auerhahnsteig (Capercaillie Trail) you can discover the capercaillies, learn a lot about them and then go to the interactive exhibition in the Kaltenbronn Information Centre.
If you want to know more about the high moor landscape, the Kaltenbronn information centre has a very interesting exhibition on the formation and on the flora and fauna of the region, for which a fee is charged. Interesting events are regularly offered, for example on the subject of mushrooms or workshops on processing natural materials. You should register for these in good time.
A number of well-signposted hiking trails into the region start right outside the front door. We hiked from Höfen an der Enz to the hotel after our boot trip. The path led through the nearby high moor through a fantastically beautiful landscape.
There are many other interesting excursion destinations in the immediate vicinity, which can also be easily reached by bus. The bus departs near the hotel.
How about a visit to the blueberry village of Enzklösterle? Here you can discover blueberry bushes on signposted hiking trails or buy blueberry products in the shop.
Bad Wildbad is high up in the sky. You can take the funicular from the town up to the tree-top walk, a great suspension bridge and a huge children’s playground. Back in the valley, the spa gardens invite you to take a walk.
