Food and drink keep body and soul together – so they say. The food in the restaurants in Churfranken should definitely be taken into account.
During my stay in Churfranken, I visited several restaurants and I was never disappointed. The food was excellent, the ambience very pleasant and I always felt very comfortable. So a good reason to introduce these restaurants in Churfranken here.
Eder Keller
The Eder Keller is located in Großostheim. Here we were able to enjoy an excellent dinner. The motto of the Eder Keller is “tradition meets modernity” and so I was curious to see what would await us there.

The Eder Keller is connected to the Eder&Heyland brewery. Not only is their own beer brewed and drunk here, of course, they also offer excellent wine from the region. When it comes to food, they also make a point of using the region’s produce as much as possible. But if you read the menu, you will also discover fish dishes that complement what is on offer.
A four-course menu awaited us, offering something for every taste. The food was excellently prepared and visually a feast for the eyes.

What a treat! My favourite was the saddle of venison. A fantastically tender and tasty meat that, in combination with the chanterelles, was exactly to my taste.

Weinhaus Stern
The Weinhaus Stern in Bürgstadt is a family-run business centrally located in the town. We were allowed to stop here for dinner and enjoy a three-course menu.

After passing through the cosy guest room, we reached the outdoor area of the hotel and wine house. This is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the evening, especially in summer.
A glance at the menu reveals that down-to-earth and regional cuisine is offered here. An extensive wine list, with wines not only from the region, makes every wine lover’s heart beat faster. But you can also find beer on the drinks menu. I first opted for a Distelhäuser beer from the Diestelhäuser brewery in Taubertal in North Baden. Later, with the main course, I also drank a dry Pinot Noir, which went very well with the meal.

The food was very good, the flavours excellently matched and the meat of the farm chicken very tender and tasty. The Spätburgunder sauce convinced me in terms of taste.
I was particularly thrilled with the starter. The combination of goat cheese and pear is always something special for me.

Gasthaus „Zum Riesen“
The Gasthaus “Zum Riesen” is located in Miltenberg. The beautiful half-timbered house in the old town is said to be the oldest princely inn in Germany. As early as the 12th century, visitors to the town stayed and dined here.

Today, the restaurant is run by Brauhaus Faust. I took this as an opportunity to drink a FAUST-Riesen Spezial. The beer is malty, but not too strong. The colour is a rich golden hue and the bouquet is very fine-pored. A drinkable beer that went ideally with the Wiener Schnitzel with fries that I had there for lunch.

A look at the menu: from snacks and salads to a few vegetarian dishes and hearty meat dishes, you will find a good selection of dishes for every taste and every budget.
We sat in the cosy dining room, but depending on the weather there is also the possibility to sit outside in the pedestrian zone of Miltenberg.

The “Schmuckkästchen” – Hotel & Wine House in Miltenberg.
In the heart of Miltenberg is the historic market place “Schnatterloch”. A beautiful square surrounded by half-timbered houses.

In one of these houses you can enjoy good food in the “Schmuckkästchen”, a hotel and wine house, in a cosy atmosphere or on the terrace with a view of the Schnatterloch.

We were drawn to the vaulted cellar, which can seat up to 50 guests. The menu offers a varied selection. Those who like hearty and meaty dishes will find what they are looking for, as will vegetarians. The portions were generous and my cheese spaetzle tasted excellent. Of course, a good drop of wine from the region or a beer should not be missed.

Gasthaus zur Krone
In Großheubach, you can experience a culinary time-out at the Gasthaus Krone that you won’t soon forget.

Sitting in a beer garden under shady trees or in the restaurant parlour, guests are spoiled by the Restel family to the best of their ability in this family-run establishment. Here, the chef stands at the cooker and conjures up imaginative and modernly presented dishes on the plate, while the chef, with her wine knowledge, is sure to recommend the right wine to go with the dish. It is not without reason that the Michelin has awarded this restaurant in Churfranken the rating “Bib Gourmand”.

We were able to convince ourselves of the excellent quality of the restaurant during a dinner. Our 4-course menu started with a homemade brawn on a radish vinaigrette herb salad. A really successful light start. This was followed by a baked prawn on avocado. I was really surprised, avocado is not really my taste, but here in combination with the shrimp it really hit the spot. For me, it was a unique taste experience that made me like an “unloved” fruit in a new way.

For the main course, we were served a corn-fed chicken breast with fresh chanterelles and pasta. My chicken was juicy, well-seasoned and excellently matched with the taste of the side dishes. I would almost have said “more, please” if I hadn’t looked at the menu and seen that a dessert of crème brûlée and a delicious raspberry sorbet was waiting for me.
Of course, an excellent meal also required a good wine. The choice fell on a wine that came from a vintner from the same place. Weingut Kremer from Großheubach had just the right summery wine on offer for the starter, a 2021 Pinot Noir Rosé. For the main course, we could then enjoy the full-bodied taste of a 2019 Spätburgunder from the Fürst winery.

For me, this evening’s menu was wonderfully harmonious in terms of taste and appearance and left a lasting impression.

Adler Landhotel
The Adler Landhotel is located in Bürgstadt and offers its guests excellent cuisine in addition to the hotel business.

During my stay in the Churfranken holiday region, I stayed at the Landhotel Adler. In several small buildings, you will find 31 cosily furnished rooms with different features. My room was on the second floor directly under the roof in the country house. The large and very quiet room was a great starting point for me to discover the region.

I especially enjoyed the organic natural pool in the hotel garden. In the summer months, you can relax here on loungers under sunshades and I enjoyed cooling off in the water after an excursion. If you prefer it “hot”, you can relax in the hotel’s Finnish sauna.

In the morning, the hotel offers its guests a large breakfast buffet with many regional products. Here you can find everything your heart desires, from muesli and fresh fruit to bread rolls. I was particularly pleased that not only ready-made muesli was offered, but also individual ingredients that could be put together individually, such as nuts and oatmeal.
In addition to the hotel business, the restaurant is also open at certain times. The food on offer is varied and offers regional dishes freshly interpreted in a modern way. The salad I ate is unfortunately not on the menu, but it should definitely be offered like this. The combination of meaty and vegan ingredients was very tasty.

If you come to Bürgstadt by car, there is a car park behind the main house. Here you can also charge your e-car. Cyclists can park their bikes overnight in a special room and charge the battery there if necessary.
