In addition to the Spree and Havel rivers, which meander majestically through the city center, numerous lakes—from large and lively to small and idyllic—offer places of peace and relaxation. Berlin’s waters are as diverse and lively as its residents and visitors.
Berlin has a deep relationship with water. In the past, Berlin’s waters served as trade routes, but today they are places for leisure and relaxation. When the weather is good, the banks are bustling with picnickers, joggers, and cyclists, while boats, kayaks, and paddleboards crisscross the waters.

How about gliding through Berlin’s waterways on a visit, past historic buildings and modern architecture, and experiencing the city from a perspective that many visitors never see? A bike ride along the Landwehr Canal is also particularly beautiful, where you can cycle past picturesque bridges and under shady trees through charming neighborhoods.
Berlin has over 1,700 bridges, more than Venice! Some of the bridges are world-famous and are often featured in films. Other bridges are less well-known but no less beautiful. Sometimes the stories surrounding these bridges are much more exciting than those of the famous bridges.
Want to try something new? How about stand-up paddleboarding or a rowboat trip? For those who prefer to take it easy, beaches such as Strandbad Wannsee are perfect places to sunbathe, swim, and enjoy the day.

One of the most beautiful bridges in Berlin, I think, is the Oberbaumbrücke, which connects Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain across the Spree.
Berlin Reinickendorf - one of the most popular destinations in the district, the Greenwich Promenade, is located on the banks of Lake Tegler. For us, it is one of the local recreation areas that we visit more often and enjoy during a walk.

It is Sunday and the sun is shining. We were invited to try stand up paddle boarding in Berlin on the Schlachtensee Lake. So, here we go to the Schlachtensee Lake in Grunewald. Before we started our stand up paddle boarding experience, we researched what SUP is and whom it is suitable for.
The Pfaueninsel is located in the Havel in the south-west of Berlin. Since 1990, it has been listed on the list of UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage and is managed by the Stiftung Preußischer Schlösser und Gärten Berlin-Brandenburg – a foundation for cultural property and parks in Berlin and Brandenburg.
