Brauhaus Neulich in Schillerkiez is a meeting place for the neighborhood and a meeting point for beer lovers from all over the world. The cozy atmosphere invites you to try the different beers on site. But what makes this brewery so special?
How it all began
Brauhaus Neulich has its origins in an idea that was developed by a group of friends in 2016. These friends had bought a piece of land in Brandenburg and started home-brewing beer there. Initially, they tested the first beers on a small scale. The feedback must have been positive. Motivated by the reactions, they decided to take the project seriously.
The search for a suitable location in Berlin began. They finally found a bar in the Schillerkiez district of Neukölln. This is where they started brewing and selling their beer in 2017 and where they are still brewing.
Since then, Brauhaus Neulich has pursued an experimental philosophy and brews beers that are oriented towards Berlin’s club culture and the regional community. It has now become an integral part of Berlin’s beer and culture scene. The team has earned Brauhaus Neulich a firm place in the Berlin craft beer scene.
The bar in Schillerkiez
The bar is located in a relatively quiet side street. In summer, there are a few tables in front of the location. If you get a seat there, you shouldn’t wait to be served. Here you can get your freshly tapped beer directly at the bar.
The tap room is a successful blend of traditional and modern. And we like it, we feel at home.
The brewhouse is located in a separate area. The brewery works with a 300-liter brewhouse, which makes it a microbrewery. This size makes it possible to brew in small batches while remaining flexible and open to experimentation.
The beers
In addition to the standard beers, seasonal beers are also on offer.
Neulich Original
The Neulich Original is the centerpiece of the Neulich brewery and a beer that perfectly embodies the brewery’s philosophy: brewed by hand, inspired by Berlin and with a focus on lightness and enjoyment.
The Neulich Original is characterized by its fresh style. It is a beer with a subtle citrus note and a balanced malt body. The citrus note gives the beer a pleasant freshness, which makes it an ideal beer on warm days in particular. The malt body provides a gentle sweetness that harmonizes perfectly with the light hop bitterness.
In the glass, the Neulich Original has a light, golden hue accompanied by a fine cloudiness – an indication of its natural production. The foam is fine-pored and stable, which makes the beer visually appealing.
The Neulich Original is a real all-round beer. Thanks to its lightness and freshness, it harmonizes perfectly with light dishes such as salads, grilled vegetables or fish. It is also an excellent accompaniment to spicy dishes such as Asian curries or Mexican tacos.
Neulich Hell
The “Neulich Hell” is a classic pale ale with a modern twist and my favorite beer from the brewery. The beer presents itself as a light, golden-colored full-bodied beer with a well-adhering, fine-pored head.
On the palate, it has a pleasant maltiness accompanied by a subtle hop bitterness. This beer is mild, drinkable and perfect for anyone looking for an uncomplicated but high-quality beer.
Neulich Hell is a versatile beer that suits many occasions. It is an excellent accompaniment to hearty dishes such as bratwurst, schnitzel or pretzels, but also harmonizes with lighter dishes such as salads or grilled vegetables. Thanks to its refreshing properties, it is also a perfect beer for the summer – whether in the beer garden, at a barbecue or simply after a long day.
Neulich Summer Ale
The “Neulich Summer Ale” is a fruity and refreshing beer specially developed for the warmer months. With an alcohol content that makes it light and drinkable and a lively fruity note reminiscent of tropical fruits, it is a beer that perfectly captures summer in Berlin.
The ale impresses with a harmonious balance of fruitiness and lightness. Aromas of apples and mandarins unfold in the first sip, giving the beer a pleasant freshness. These fruity notes are accompanied by a light citrus note that makes the beer particularly lively. At the same time, a subtle malt sweetness ensures a round, full-bodied taste.
In the finish, the Summer Ale remains pleasantly dry and refreshing without being too bitter.
Neulich Summer Ale presents itself in the glass with an unfiltered, yellow color and a stable, light head. The beer is top-fermented, which is typical for an ale. It unfolds its full aroma at a drinking temperature of 5-8°C.
The beer is a real all-round beer for the summer. It goes perfectly with light dishes such as summer salads, grilled vegetables or fish.
Sportmolle – A non-alcoholic classic from the Neulich brewery
In addition to the classic and creative beers from Brauhaus Neulich, a very special drink has crept into the hearts of Berliners and beer lovers: the Sportmolle.
Sportmolle is a naturally cloudy, non-alcoholic drink that was developed with great attention to detail at Brauhaus Neulich. The term “Sportmolle” is Berlinese and stands for Fassbrause – a drink that has a long tradition in the capital. Originally, Fassbrause was developed as an alcohol-free alternative to beer, and Sportmolle takes up this idea.
Sportmolle impresses with its sparkling freshness. It is brewed from Pilsner malt and Mosaic hops, which gives it a subtle maltiness and a fine, fruity hop note. Particularly noteworthy: Sportmolle has no added sugar, making it not only refreshing but also a conscious choice for anyone who wants to avoid unnecessary sweetness.
In the glass, Sportmolle has a slightly cloudy, golden hue with a lively carbonation that ensures a pleasantly tingling mouthfeel. The taste is balanced: a mild malt base meets a subtle citrus freshness, which is supported by the Mosaic hops. The result is a thirst-quencher that not only delights athletes, but is also perfectly refreshing on hot summer days or after a long day at work. For me, the Sportmolle is a great change of pace and
