BrewDog DogTap Berlin – Beer without borders

Since late summer 2019, there has been a new location for beer lovers in Berlin’s Marienpark – the BrewDog DogTap Berlin opened in September.
We were there shortly after the opening and not only looked around, but also tested beers.

BrewDog DogTap Berlin

Come along on a little tour

We arrive at the large brick hall and decide to take a look at the newly designed outdoor facilities first.
There are numerous tables and chairs on the large terrace. Up to 450 people can be seated here.

Terrasse der Brauerei

We discover a miniature golf course. Here you can use the interestingly designed courses free of charge and enjoy your beer. It’s a pity that the weather wasn’t so inviting during our visit, I would have definitely challenged Patrick to a game.

Minigolfanlage der Brauerei

For all dog lovers who bring their four-legged friend to DogTap Berlin, there is a dog park. In a fenced-off area, the dogs can move around freely and the owners can chat with each other over a beer.

Sudhaus im BrewDog

We then begin our exploration inside the brick building.
The first thing that catches the eye is the brightly lit area with the brew kettles. Here in the brewhouse, 100 hectolitres of beer can be produced per brew. The capacities are still to be expanded. Anyone interested in brewing beer can book a guided tour of the brewery.

Biermuseum bei BrewDog in Berlin

We follow the sign to the small beer museum. Here you can learn a lot about beer. If that’s not enough, you can register at the beer academy (Beerschool) and brew your own beer with support. I think I’ll have to try that out sometime and brew a “fromplacetoplace.travel – Spezial”.

Flipperecke in der BrewDog DogTap Berlin

In addition to the 750 seats in the BrewDog DogTap Berlin, visitors can also play pinball, arcade games and shuffleboard here. Definitely a nice change between two beers!

I really like the design of the BrewDog DogTap Berlin. There is a large container in the middle of the room, where the bar is located. There are up to 60 beers on tap and a good 100 more beers from bottles and cans. A really huge selection!
You won’t be left hungry either. In addition to meat dishes, the menu also includes 50% vegetarian dishes and up to 25% vegan dishes.

BrewDog DogTap Berlin – tested by us

We were at the brewery on a Thursday evening. On this evening, a jazz band played and in addition, the “Collabfest” took place. At this event breweries present their beer. Almost all BrewDog bars worldwide participate in this event and offer smaller local breweries a chance to present themselves.

Brewdog Punk IPA
Brewdog Punk IPA

We were definitely curious about the beers that awaited us that evening. We started with a beer from BrewDog. The Punk IPA with 5.4% is an India Pale Ale. The beer shows a clear amber-like colour in the glass. The aroma suggests the fruitiness of this beer and when drinking it, you quickly notice the slight sweetness of mango and peach. The bitterness typical of India Pale Ale is quite soft and not too dominant in the Punk IPA. A great beer to start the evening with.

BRLO Sink the pink
BRLO Sink the pink

Next, the Berlin brewery BRLO introduces us to one of its beers. “Sink the Pink” is an Imperial Pink New England IPA with 8.5% alcohol. The brewers have not only used bitter orange here. They have also used beetroot juice to give the beer a beautiful colour. I like the slightly bitter taste, which I don’t find too intense. It is not a soft beer that you just drink away. For me, there is a lot of flavour behind it.

Hamburg Kreativbrauerei SAMOA
Hamburg Kreativbrauerei: SAMOA Double Dry Hopped Pale Ale

After so much flavour, the next beer didn’t have it easy. Hamburg’s Kehrwieder Kreativbrauerei introduced us to the SAMOA Double Dry Hopped Pale Ale. The bottom-fermented beer smells a bit like tropical fruit and, at 4.9% alcohol, is much lighter than the previous beer. It didn’t quite meet my taste.

Berliner Berg Dieckie B
Berliner Berg: Dickes B, Berliner Weiße

Finally, there was my personal favourite beer of the evening. The Berliner Berg brewery had brewed a Berliner Weisse for this event, which I found very convincing in terms of taste. “Dickes B Elderflower & Mandarin” had the typical taste of a Berliner Weiße, but was not too sour. An ideal drink for a hot summer day, refreshing and tangy.

Cambridge Big drop Brewing
Cambridge Big drop Brewing: The nutty professor

Patrick also dared to try an almost alcohol-free beer (0.5%). “The nutty professor” from Cambridge Big Drop Brewing smelled very much like nuts. A great and intense smell, but I didn’t find it in the taste of the beer. The beer was too tasteless for me, it wasn’t my taste.

Besides the really interesting beers, good conversations with brewers and beer lovers, we were also able to enjoy the cuisine of Dog Tap Berlin. We were served a small buffet with a selection from the menu. From the pretzel, Pulled Por spring rolls to the Punk Can Chicken, it was really very good. We enjoyed it and it was the perfect base for the great beers.

Essen im BrewDog DogTap Berlin

We really enjoyed the evening with live music and good beer and will definitely be back.
