Directly in front of Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin, a Christmas market has been held in the run-up to Christmas for several years. Against the historic backdrop of the palace, you can stroll through the Christmas stalls here every year from the end of November until the end of December.
There are countless Christmas markets in Berlin, so it’s always difficult to decide which one to visit each year. However, the Christmas market at Charlottenburg Palace is a firm fixture on our programme every year.
We are attracted here by the beautiful backdrop of the palace, which is festively illuminated every year. The market stalls look like a small village in front of it, and the atmosphere is also created by small brass bands. These perform from time to time and play Christmas carols.
Over time, the Christmas market has developed into a tourist magnet. Even coaches make special trips to this Berlin Christmas market. Parking spaces are in absolute short supply here and it really is best to travel here by public transport.
Admission to the Christmas market is free.
The market is easily manageable in terms of size and layout. The central square in the middle is a meeting place for many people, who comfortably stand together here and eat and drink. A small programme is offered around the stalls. There is even a special “children’s Christmas market” with rides for children in a separate area. Here, parents can enjoy their mulled wine or bratwurst in peace while the children have fun.
The market stalls range from the typical bratwurst to delicious fruit bread. There is something for every taste, from hot cocoa to mulled wine.
Arts and crafts are also not neglected at this Christmas market. From candles to wooden toys or lovingly made jewellery, visitors will find a really wide range here.
