We love discovering a city from above and are always on the lookout for great vantage points in Berlin. High above the rooftops, a city looks completely different, and in Berlin in particular, it is very exciting to look down into the urban canyons.
Whether you want to soak up the hustle and bustle of the city or seek a quiet moment above the rooftops of Berlin, the capital’s vantage points offer something for everyone.
The diversity of Berlin’s vantage points
Berlin offers an impressive selection of vantage points spread across the city. The Berlin TV Tower on Alexanderplatz is probably the best known. At a height of 368 meters, it is the tallest structure in Germany and offers a panoramic view of the entire city from its viewing platform at a height of 203 meters. The view of the illuminated skyline at sunset is a particularly unforgettable experience. Another highlight is the Reichstag dome, which not only impresses architecturally, but also offers a fantastic view of the government district and the Tiergarten. Admission is free, but advance registration is required. Those who prefer a quieter atmosphere should visit Viktoriapark in Kreuzberg. From the top of Kreuzberg, the city’s highest natural elevation, you have a romantic view over western Berlin – ideal for a relaxing afternoon.

Modern and historical perspectives
In addition to the classic vantage points, there are also modern alternatives such as the Panorama Point at Potsdamer Platz. Europe’s fastest elevator takes visitors up to a height of 100 meters in just 20 seconds. From here, there is a fantastic view of the Brandenburg Gate, the Tiergarten park, and the surrounding skyscrapers. For history buffs, the flak tower in Volkspark Humboldthain offers an exciting combination of historical relic and viewpoint. After a short climb, you are rewarded with a sweeping view of northern Berlin.
Nature and tranquility above the city rooftops
Nature lovers should visit Teufelsberg in Grunewald. The artificial rubble mountain from the post-war period not only offers a sweeping view of the city and the surrounding forests, but also the opportunity to explore the remains of the former Cold War listening station. Teufelsberg is a special place that combines history, art, and nature.
One step after the next … I'm already getting a bit out of breath as I climb the steps of the church tower in St Matthew's Church. Hopefully the vantage point on the church tower will be worth it and open up a view over the neighbouring Kulturforum in Berlin.
Berlin is a green city. This is always noticeable to us when we are looking for a place for a short walk. The Lübars leisure park with the Lübarser Höhe is the ideal place for a short trip.
Next to the Brandenburg Gate, the Berlin Reichstag is not only a landmark of the city, but also one of the most famous buildings in Germany. Every day, thousands of Berlin visitors are drawn there to take a look at the historic building not only from the outside, but also from the inside.
Yes, Berlin also has mountains from which you can enjoy the view over the city. The Drachenberg in Grunewald is a great vantage point over the city.
The main attraction in the Park am Fernsehturm is the Berlin TV Tower. It is one of the most famous and important buildings in Berlin and a landmark of the city.
If you travel on the Berlin S-Bahn ring, you will come to the Messe Nord station. This is a busy place, especially during trade fairs, and from here you can get to the Messezentrum Berlin. But not only that. Here is also the ICC Berlin, the Berlin Radio Tower, the House of Radio and not…
One of the truly exceptional viewpoints in Berlin is the large HiFlyer a tethered balloon near Checkpoint Charlie.
Viewpoints are simply the highlight of every city discovery for me. So a visit to the Panorama Point at Potsdamer Platz was just the thing for me.
Berlin also has mountains, you might hardly believe it. Besides the most famous mountain, the Teufelsberg, there is the Hahneberg in the district of Spandau.
Abandoned on Teufelsberg in Grunewald, the former US radar and listening station Teufelsberg. Today, only dilapidated buildings remain as reminders of an eventful piece of history in Berlin.
It is Sunday at around lunchtime – time to go for a walk – time to go to the visitor’s deck of Tegel Airport. At Tegel Airport guests can observe aeroplanes for hours from the visitor’s deck.
The victory column (“Siegessäule”) in Berlin is located on the main square in the district Tiergarten, the “Großer Stern” – the great star square. It was built according to a design by Heinrich Strack and is now under monumental protection.
