The brewery – Forsthaus Templin

The Brandenburg Beer Road took us near Caputh in the district of Potsdam-Mittelmark. Here, in the Forsthaus Templin, is the brewery, a certified organic brewery.

The Forsthaus Templin can look back on a long history. As early as 1834, there was an excursion pub on this site. In the 1930s and 1940s, a business with about 4000 seats developed and numerous visitors arrived at the steamboat and ship docks. Especially popular at that time was the opportunity to go swimming on a stretch of beach.

In GDR times, the operation was changed due to the high number of visitors. Now there was a self-service restaurant here that catered to the numerous visitors.

After the reunification, the farm was leased for a time. Then the house stood empty for over 5 years. In 2002, the current owners bought the forester’s lodge and converted it into a pub brewery. Today you can sit in three rooms or on the large terrace and enjoy good food and home-brewed beer.

Brewing beer in the brewery

Since 2007, the beer of the brewery is produced in organic quality. The company is a member of Naturland and also has an organic certificate. The goal is to use only regional products as far as possible. This is not yet entirely possible, since Brandenburg, for example, does not yet have a producer for organically produced hops. The malting barley required is now grown by Brandenburg farmers.

Of course, the brewing process plays a decisive role. Unlike many large producers, the beer from the brewery is not filtered. The naturally cloudy beer also has a relatively short shelf life (about 3 months) due to the short-time heating. The fermentation process is long and cold, with a subsequent maturation period of about 4 weeks. This is how the unique taste of the beer develops.

Beers of the brewery

Throughout the year, the brewery offers Bio-Hell, Bio-Dunkel, Werdersches, Weisse and Potsdamer Stangenbier. In addition, seasonal beers such as Märzen, Maibock, Weizenbier, Erntebock and Weihnachtsbock are served.

Braumanufaktur

During our visit we could enjoy freshly tapped beers, which convinced us in terms of taste.

Potsdamer Stange

Potsdam’s Stangenbier has been brewed in the region for over 200 years. In 1970, the golden-yellow unfiltered full-bodied beer then disappeared from the store’s range. The brewery has revived this tasty beer and included it in the permanently offered assortment.

The special feature of this beer is the use of barley and wheat malt. It develops during the brewing process a pilsner with a little bit of banana flavor, like a wheat beer. The beer is very tangy and is typically served in a pint glass.

In terms of taste, the beer has convinced us. It is feinherb, very drinkable and just tastes good!

Bio-Hell

The second beer we tasted at the brewery was the Bio-Hell. The beer is golden yellow and unfiltered with a subtle bitter note. It is made from barley malt and natural cone aroma hops according to the German Purity Law.

I liked the beer very much. It had a pleasant bitter note and a full-bodied taste.

Dinner at Forsthaus Templin

The inn offers German cuisine, which fits perfectly with the beer offer. The price-performance ratio is very good.

Essen im Brauhaus

We chose the freshly baked spent grain bread with venison ham, venison salami and venison liver sausage and the venison crackers with brown beer sauerkraut. A good choice. The game products were excellent.
