Teltow-Fläming

To the south of Berlin lies a region that might seem unremarkable at first glance, but upon closer inspection is a treasure trove for relaxation-seekers and active holidaymakers: the Teltow-Fläming district. True adventure awaits right on your doorstep.

The Teltow-Fläming district is located in the southwest of the state of Brandenburg and borders the Brandenburg districts of Dahme-Spreewald, Elbe-Elster, and Potsdam-Mittelmark. The northern part of the region is characterized by the Teltow, a glacial plateau consisting mostly of ground moraine. The south is defined by the Fläming, a glacial ridge bounded by ancient glacial valleys. The Nuthe glacial valley separates the two regions.

What makes the region so unique is a perfect symbiosis of rapid movement and deep tranquility. Its centerpiece is the Fläming-Skate, Europe’s longest track of its kind. A black ribbon of over 230 kilometers of asphalt meanders through lush meadows, shady forests, and picturesque villages. Here, inline skaters, cyclists, and longboarders glide through the gently rolling landscape.

But to reduce Teltow-Fläming to just its wheels would be a mistake. A trip here is like a journey back in time to the German Middle Ages. The town of Jüterbog welcomes its visitors with an almost completely preserved city wall and impressive Gothic city gates. Strolling through the historic center, past the imposing St. Nikolai Church, you can feel a hint of the history of the Reformation, when the preacher of indulgences, Johann Tetzel, disseminated his theses from here.

Only a few kilometers away lies Zinna Abbey (Kloster Zinna), a former Cistercian monastery. Today, the venerable walls house a museum, a demonstration weaving workshop, and the famous monastery distillery. A tasting of the legendary herbal liqueur “Klosterbruder” is an absolute must and an authentic piece of regional tradition.
