We always ask ourselves the same question when we go on a city trip. Is a city card worth it? We tested the HannoverCard during our time in the city.
Where can I get the HannoverCard?
The Adventure Card can be purchased in the Hannover Region at the Tourist Information Offices in Bad Nenndorf, Steinhude, Barsinghausen and Mardorf and at Hannover Airport (Arrivals level Terminal B). If you are already in Hannover, it is best to buy your card at the Tourist Information, which is located opposite the main railway station. In addition, it is possible to purchase the card in some hotels and at the youth hostel.
Certainly the most convenient way is to buy online, which is really child’s play. All you have to do is enter the duration of use, the start date and the user name, pay and then print out your card. The QR code on the card is scanned during use, for example in the museum.
What kind of ticket offers are there?
Different types of cards are offered, with a 1, 2 or 3-day validity period. If you are travelling with at least 3 people, a group ticket (max. 5 people) is worthwhile.
In 2022, the prices for the HannoverCard were:
Single ticket 1 day: 10,-€
Group ticket 1 day: 21,-€
Single ticket 2 days: 16,-€
Group ticket 2 days: 28,-€
Single ticket 3 days: 19,-€
Group ticket 3 days: 36,-€
It is important to note that these tickets are only valid for the specified calendar day. For example, if you buy a day ticket at around 1 pm, the validity ends at midnight on the same day!
What does the HannoverCard offer?
For us, one of the most important features of the card – you can travel free of charge on all buses, S-Bahn and U-Bahn trains as well as local trains of the entire Greater Hannover Transport Authority (GVH).
The great thing is that this is not only possible on the first day of validity of the card, but already the day before from 7 pm. This means that if you arrive in Hannover in the evening, you can use the HannoverCard to go to a hotel, restaurant, etc. as early as 7pm. The next day it is then possible to benefit from the discounts offered by the card.
In addition, the HannoverCard offers numerous discounts on visits to a wide variety of experiences. The reductions vary, with a wide range of discounts on admission prices. You can find out exactly how much in the card brochure. It also lists exactly which establishments participate in the promotion.
Here is a brief overview:
- Marienburg Castle
- Herrenhäuser Gardens
- Sprengel Museum
- Hannover Adventure Zoo

Is the card worth it?
As with any discount card, you should check in advance whether the offer is worthwhile for your personal wishes and ideas for a visit to the city. I can only go on the basis of our experience; everyone should calculate for themselves.
We visited some places in Hanover that offered discounts on admission with the card. In addition, we took some trips by public transport, the costs of which were also covered by the card.
If you add up the actual admission prices and the reduced prices (plus the price for the HannoverCard), we saved money. So the HannoverCard was worth it for us.
