There is a lot to experience in Münster and the “münstercard” offers visitors some advantages.
In partnership with Münster Tourismus Marketing, the Stadtwerke have developed the tourist card münstercard. It can be purchased, for example, in some hotels, in the Stadtwerke CityShop, the information desk in the historic city hall, Münster Information and online. It is also possible to download a free app. There you can then buy the münstercard and manage it online. The app provides the user with additional information such as opening hours and location of the offer, as well as information about bus transport in Münster.

What benefits does the münstercard offer?
As with any city map, it pays to plan your own activities carefully before buying. Are my preferred destinations included in the offer? What will it cost me without the card and what will I save with the card? We have tested some of the card’s offers:
Mobile in Münster
For us always one of the most interesting and most used advantage is the free use of buses and trains. In the entire city of Münster, you can travel for free with the münstercard. It saved us, for example, the walk to the train station (with the luggage).
If you prefer to use a bicycle in Münster, you can rent one free of charge at the bike station at the main train station (while supplies last). For Münster, the bicycle is one of the most important and fastest means of transportation. In our article “With the bike criss-cross through Münster” you can learn more about the bicycle city Münster.
Another way to be mobile in Münster is to take the Münsterbus. The day ticket for the Münsterbus is free of charge if you show your münstercard. Every day, at least every hour, the red bus travels a route with 12 stops in the city. You can get on and off everywhere and also listen to a guided tour of the city.
Or how about a trip across the Aasee? The solar ship SOLAARIS takes visitors to Münster across the lake here from around March (weather permitting) until October. With the münstercard, you can take a round trip on the SOOLARIS for free. We have tested the offer and report about it in our article “Local recreation in Münster – on the way at the Aasee”.

Culture in Münster
Of course, the münstercard also offers the opportunity to visit some interesting cultural institutions in the city. We visited some of them during our stays in Münster and have reported on them.
We have already visited the LWL Museum of Art and Culture twice. Once our visit was on the theme of peace and we visited the special exhibition on the topic and of course also the permanent exhibition. On our second visit, there was another special exhibition on the theme of Bauhaus to discover. We were thrilled each time. With the münstercard, you can visit the permanent exhibition at the LWL Museum of Art and Culture free of charge.

The art museum Pablo Picasso Münster can also be visited free of charge with the offer of the card. We took part in a great guided tour during our visit to Münster on the theme of peace and discovered the works of art.
For me, one of the most impressive visits to Münster was to the Peace Hall in the Historic City Hall. With the münstercard you get free admission to the Friedenssaal.

The beautiful open-air museum Mühlenhof can also be visited free of charge. With initially still cloudy weather, but that then improved from minute to minute, we have explored the historic buildings and had a lot of fun. In our article “Visit to the open-air museum Mühlenhof in Münster” you can read more about it.

Further offers, which are free of charge possible is the visit of the museum for lacquer art, the Westphalian art association and the LWL museum for natural history. The Allwetterzoo Münster can be discovered with a 50% reduction of the entrance fee.
Free city tours
The münstercard also offers its user the opportunity to take part in city tours free of charge. You can find three providers at once:
- StattReisen Münster (some selected tour offers from the program)
- Stadt Lupe Münster (1,5 hour city tour / old town tour)
- k3 stadtführungen (1.5 hour classic city tour)
The tours must be booked in advance (Münster Information or Tourist Information in the Historic Town Hall) and you can participate only if there are free places.
Offers in the surrounding area
Not quite in the old town area are two other offers that are quite interesting. At the residence of Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, Haus Rüschhaus, you can take part in a free public tour and have free admission.
We visited the birthplace of Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, Hülshoff Castle. The beautiful complex is located in Havixbeck and is also easily accessible by bike. With the münstercard you get free admission and an audio guide. (I will report about our visit in an extra article, the link will be published later).
How much does the münstercard cost?
Two variants of the card are offered, depending on the period of use.
Price adults:
1 calendar day: 20€
2 calendar days: 30€
Discounts for children 6-17 years are offered.
Is the münstercard worth it?
I think that you should definitely calculate before buying the card whether it is really worth it. For a visit to Münster, where you want to see as much as possible in a short time, the offer is certainly suitable. In any case, we made good use of it and saw a lot in Münster.
