Koblenz - Where Father Rhine and Mother Moselle meet
Koblenz is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Germany! Nestled between the Rhine and Moselle rivers and surrounded by a spectacular wine landscape, the city offers the perfect combination of history, nature, enjoyment and urban flair.
The name Koblenz is derived from the Latin word “Confluentes”, which means “confluence”. The Rhine and the Moselle flow together at the Deutsches Eck and just a few kilometers to the south, the Lahn also flows into the Rhine.
Koblenz is located in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley, which is known for its fairytale castles, romantic vineyards and idyllic villages. From here, you can visit the famous Loreley, take a boat trip on the Rhine or discover the countless castles along the river valleys.
At the famous Deutsches Eck, where the Rhine and Moselle flow together, sits the imposing Kaiser Wilhelm Monument, which symbolizes German history. High above the city rises the mighty Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, which is not only one of the largest fortifications in Europe, but also offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the city and the surrounding river valleys. The cable car, which runs directly over the Rhine, makes the journey to the fortress an experience in itself.
The historic old town with its winding alleyways, old half-timbered houses and charming squares invites you to stroll, store and linger. Discover impressive buildings such as the Church of Our Lady, the Electoral Palace or the Jesuit Quarter. You can enjoy the special flair of this city in the many small cafés and restaurants.
The area around Koblenz is characterized by the vineyards of the Moselle, the Middle Rhine and the Ahr. First-class wines can be found here, especially the famous Riesling, which thrives in the region’s steep vineyards. Visit one of the many wine taverns, wineries or wine bars in the city and enjoy the culinary specialties of the region – from hearty dishes to fine wines.

Tanja von Spaness and the Brodenbach organization team came up with something very special. We were allowed to experience the Saturday afternoon, divided into different groups the #AbenteuerBrodenbach in the truest sense of the word adventurous. Depending on our interests, we could join one of three groups: Adventure Herbs & Cuisine, Adventure Thunderhole, Adventure Ehrbachklamm.
Our adventure Brodenbach leads us to the Ehrenburg. We drive out of town along a road with switchbacks higher and higher into the Hunsrück and finally arrive at a large parking lot. From here we walk another 400 meters downhill until we reach the Ehrenburg.
The town of Brodenbach is located on the beautiful Moselle River. Arrival
By plane
Koblenz does not have its own airport. Those arriving by plane travel via the nearest airports Cologne-Bonn, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt or Frankfurt-Hahn. From there, you can then continue to Koblenz by train.
By train
Koblenz’s main train station is located near the city center. ICEs and IC trains stop there, as well as numerous regional trains from various providers. From Koblenz you can reach Cologne, for example, in about an hour.
By car
The freeways A48 and A61 run directly by the city. In addition, federal highways running to the left and right of the Rhine offer a very good connection to the region.
By bus
The bus station is located directly at the main train station. Several long-distance bus lines of different providers arrive here. In addition, there are regional bus connections to the surrounding region.
The city bus lines offer connections from the outskirts of Park&Ride parking lots to the city center for the journey on a city trip to Koblenz.
By boat
The Rhine and Moselle rivers are busy waterways around Koblenz. In addition to cargo shipping, river cruise ships and passenger ships also operate on the rivers. Passenger shipping, for example, connects Koblenz with Cochem.
By bicycle
The Rhine Cycle Path, the Moselle Cycle Path and the Lahn Valley Cycle Path run along and through Koblenz.

Public transport
The public transportation network in Koblenz is quite well developed. City buses run throughout the city. Additionally, night buses run on weekends and holidays.
On foot
Large parts of the city center are pedestrian zones.
Altstadtexpress
From the Deutsches Eck, the Altstadtexpress runs through downtown Koblenz in about half an hour during the summer.
Rhine cable car
The Rhine cable car offers the most comfortable and visually certainly most beautiful way from the Deutsches Eck over the Rhine to Ehrenstein Castle. In summer (April-October) it runs daily from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., in winter it operates only on weekends and holidays.
Rhine ferry
A ferry runs from Koblenz to Ehrenbreitstein.
Parking
The parking guidance system indicates available parking spaces in Koblenz. The city has over 10,000 parking spaces close to the city center in parking garages/underground garages and on public streets.
Large parts of the city are managed by means of parking ticket machines, and the parking garages also charge a fee.
