Spring on the Moselle has a very specific color: Bright pink! When nature slowly awakens from its winter sleep and the vines are still bare, the Moselle valley transforms into a veritable sea of blossoms. One of the most beautiful routes to experience this natural spectacle up close is the hiking trail from Neef to Ediger-Eller.

Before we lace up our hiking boots, here is a little background knowledge on the secret stars of our tour.
The Peach Blossom on the Moselle
The “Red Moselle Vineyard Peach” is a true cultural asset in the region. Originally, the Romans brought the plant to the Moselle, as it thrives perfectly in the mild microclimate of the river valleys. Depending on the weather, the buds usually open between mid-March and mid-April. In autumn, the tree then produces furry, grayish fruits that are highly aromatic but rather tart when raw – absolutely perfect for jams, liqueurs, and chutneys.
Starting Signal in Neef: First the Cake, then the Kilometers
We had a very relaxed journey by train and got off at the Neef station. Before we really started hiking, we took a quick stroll into the Einkehrstation (refreshment stop) in Neef. Here we began the hike with a large slice of vineyard peach cake. There is simply no better way to get in the mood for the theme!

Freshly fortified, we walked down to the festival grounds and curved towards the banks of the Moselle. Especially here, close to the water, the buds of the peach trees are often the first to burst open and shine towards you from afar. We crossed the bridge and took the middle path directly along the slope. The path is easy to find. In addition to small, extra hiking signs, we discovered painted pink trail markers that would guide us the entire way.

Walking Through a Pink Dream
Now came the absolute highlight of our tour. On the northern slope between Neef and Bremm, we walked through a dream come true in pink. Over two thousand vineyard peach trees grow here! Take your time, breathe in the delicate scent, enjoy the magnificent views of the river valley, and definitely take a few photos.

Past the Steepest Vineyard in Europe
We passed a hiking hut, briefly crossed the street, and then strolled past the back of the village of Bremm. The path is lined with blossoming orchards and vineyards. Right after that, we turned right and followed the winding alleys typical of the Moselle downhill towards the water.
We left the village through the pedestrian underpass and reached the riverside path. Now we followed the course of the river. We looked out at the historical ruins of the Stuben Monastery and walked directly along the foot of the mighty Calmont – the steepest vineyard in Europe. The contrast between the rugged, steep rocks and the delicate pink blossoms along the path is simply unique.

The Culinary Finale: Essig Kultur HB in Ediger-Eller
We crossed the street once more and reached the wine town of Ediger-Eller. A real highlight for our taste buds was waiting here. We headed for ESSIG KULTUR HB!

The mastermind behind the manufactory is Herbert Budweg. The idea for vinegar production came about when he bought a house in Ediger-Eller a few years ago and discovered many dusty wine bottles in the wine cellar. It wasn’t long before the idea for his farm shop (Uckerstraße 10, 56814 Ediger-Eller) was born.
You can feel his philosophy in every drop: He relies on 100% natural, regional, and seasonal manual labor – completely without flavor enhancers or artificial flavors. He uses what nature on the Moselle offers him right on his doorstep.

You can discover some truly great products at his place:
- Handmade wine vinegars: This is the heart of the manufactory.
- Unusual pestos: While hiking, he always keeps an eye out for edible wild herbs. This results in creative products like garlic mustard pesto, wild garlic pesto, or even vine leaf pesto.
- Black walnuts: The nuts come from walnut trees right in Ediger-Eller. They are watered in an elaborate, days-long manual process and then pickled sweet and sour or processed further into vinegar.

We tasted our way through some of his vinegars and quite honestly: I hadn’t the slightest idea until now how extremely different and complex vinegar can taste. Everything from fruity-mild to deeply aromatic is represented. I particularly liked that we not only got samples but also practical recipe tips for home. Naturally, a few bottles traveled home with us in the end.
Important note: These regional treasures cannot be bought in an online shop! An on-site visit is therefore mandatory.
- Address: Uckerstraße 10, 56814 Ediger-Eller
- Farm shop opening hours: Monday-Friday: 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM | Saturday & Sunday: 11:00 AM – 6:00 PM.

Conclusion & Journey Home
With these fantastic flavors on our tongues and countless pink impressions in our minds, we finally strolled quite relaxed to the Ediger-Eller train station, from where the train comfortably brought us back to Cochem.

This hike is the perfect mix of nature, photo spots, and regional indulgence. If you want to experience the peach blossom on the Moselle, we can warmly recommend this route to you. But even after the peach blossoms, the route is simply beautiful!!!!
We undertook this hike as part of a press trip.
