In Berlin you can take a steamboat, in Merseburg there is the Saale boat trip with Captain Fu. As soon as summer comes, you can start exploring the Saale by boat.
We went in search of the MS Captain Fu and found it in a somewhat hidden place on the banks of the Saale. There are signs all over Merseburg pointing to the pier, but you have to look a bit closer to discover the pier.
We enter the 25-metre-long and 5-metre-wide ship via the jetty. There is room for 120 passengers and they can enjoy a relaxing trip on the Saale either below deck or on the sun deck. Of course, you are also served food during the trip.
From April to October, you can hire the MS Captain Fu for groups of 15 or more and, for example, discover the Saale in the direction of Leuna on a two- to three-hour trip. There is also the option of going as far as Halle. However, this tour takes much longer, as 10 locks have to be passed along the way (from about 9 am to 6 pm). In any case, there is enough time to celebrate together and enjoy the trip.
On Sundays, the ship runs a regular service to Leuna. From 14-17h, the ship is on the Coffee Gossip Tour and departs punctually from Merseburg without a minimum number of participants.
If you’re thinking – Leuna is full of industry – is it worth it or do you just pass factories? Let me tell you, yes, it is worth it! The ship sails along the Saale past the existing floodplains and you can enjoy the beautiful nature here. If you are lucky, the captain will spot native animals and draw the passengers’ attention to them.
A boat trip on the Saale is definitely a wonderful opportunity to relax a little and enjoy the day.
