Zeitz
In the south of the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt lies the residential town of Zeitz, still a real insider tip in the Burgenland district. Zeitz is an ideal destination for vacationers looking for history, culture and authentic places away from the crowds of tourists.
The town was one of the most important towns in the Duchy of Saxony-Zeitz from 1652 to 1718. Zeitz is over 1050 years old and was once an important cathedral and residence town. As the seat of bishops and dukes, the town played a central role in the region. Moritzburg Castle served as the residence of Moritz von Sachsen-Zeitz and is now home to a museum. The old town with its historic buildings invites you to take a stroll through the centuries.

However, Zeitz is better known as an industrial location. It was once an important railroad junction in the region, which promoted industrialization. In Zeitz, for example, baby carriages were manufactured for many years (which were used throughout Germany) and sugar was produced. Lignite mining shaped the region from around 1830. Today, a structural change is taking place here that is shaping the entire region.
Zeitz is part of the “Saxony-Anhalt Garden Dreams” initiative and offers beautiful green spaces and parks that invite you to linger. This combination of nature and history makes the town particularly attractive for those seeking relaxation.
Zeitz is close to the Saale-Unstrut wine-growing region, which is known for its white wines such as Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner and Riesling. A visit to the region offers the opportunity to sample local wines.
The town is unjustly in a “slumber”. Great initiatives and projects are in the process of bringing life back to the city. Visitors can look forward to a city in transition, where there is much to discover.
What to do in Zeitz – Excursion tips Zeitz

There's nothing going on in Zeitz… only old people live there… where is Zeitz, I've never heard of it…We have often heard these and other prejudices when we have reported enthusiastically about the town in Saxony-Anhalt. Of course Zeitz is struggling.

Even on our first visit, we really wanted to explore Zeitz underground. Unfortunately, it didn't work out then due to time constraints, but on our second visit we were able to take part in a guided tour.

Zeitz has a really interesting industrial culture that you should definitely discover. We took a look around the former Herrmannschacht briquette factory. A really exciting excursion to the oldest preserved briquette factory of the first generation!

In the south of Saxony-Anhalt in the Burgenlandkreis district only about 25 kilometres north of Gera lies the city of Zeitz. We spent a day in the city and discovered a lot. Follow us on a little tour through Zeitz.

Yes, the Moritzburg is also in Zeitz! The Moritzburg Castle in Zeitz in Saxony-Anhalt is often confused with the Moritzburg in Saxony. Yet the castle in Zeitz is unique and really worth seeing. It is definitely worth a visit, especially if you take some time to explore the castle grounds at your leisure.
