Saxon Beer Town Radeberg
At first glance, Radeberg near Dresden may seem to many to be merely a synonym for excellent beer. But anyone who visits the Saxon beer town will quickly discover that a short trip here offers far more than just world-famous pilsner enjoyment.
Nestled in the picturesque landscape of the Dresdner Heide, Radeberg reveals itself as a charming little town that ideally combines industrial history, palatial charm, and nature experiences for a short getaway.
Radeberg became famous mainly for the large Radeberger Exportbierbrauerei located there, which produces the first beer ever brewed in Germany in the Pilsner style. A guided tour through the historic and modern production facilities is an absolute must and a fascinating experience, not just for beer lovers. You can immerse yourself in the art of brewing and hear anecdotes from the brewery’s history. At the end of the tour, there is, of course, the freshly tapped, crisp pilsner. In keeping with the beer theme, the town has a “Bierstadtpfad” (Beer Town Trail) and the “Biertheater” (Beer Theatre). Here, you will be excellently entertained in the Saxon dialect.

But there is much more to discover. Just a stone’s throw from the brewery lies Klippenstein Castle. Once used by Elector Moritz as a hunting lodge and festival palace, it now houses a museum.
For those who are in the mood for fresh air after so much culture and history, the Dresdner Heide is right outside the city gates. Germany’s largest contiguous forest area is the perfect destination for an excursion. Numerous well-signposted hiking and cycling paths invite you to take a relaxing walk along the little Röder river or an extended hike towards Dresden.
Excursion tips in and around the beer town of Radeberg
A city tour and relaxation are two sides of the same coin in Radeberg. We went out to explore the City of Beer Path (Bierstadtpfad) and the Planet Path (Planetenwanderweg).
A trip to Radeberg and a visit to the brewery just belong together. As part of our research trip to Radeberg, we, too, visited the Export Beer Brewery Radeberg.
Whenever I heard „Radeberg, “ I thought of beer. As it turned that was a big mistake, there is so much more to it than that. For example the Castle Klippenstein.

The Hotel Kaiserhof at the edge of Radeberg’s Old Town is somewhat of a central hub. We were invited to spend a relaxing night there. But not before we had a refresher session for our „language skills“ in the Beer Theatre.
