The GHOTEL in Kiel, Kiel-Kronshagen more precisely, is about 6 kilometres away from the city centre. We got to spend two relaxing nights in the hotel and two days exploring in Kiel.
A little under the weather and with the suspected diagnosis of a fatigue fracture in my foot I hobbled into the hotel on crutches. At this point, we had been on tour in Kiel more or less dynamically the entire morning and now it was definitely time to give the foot an hour of rest. I saw a mild panic burning the receptionist’s eyes when we arrived. The hotel does not have a lift and our room was on the second floor. He was almost at a point where he would have carried my upstairs himself. But for an athlete like me, the stairs were not a problem. It is fascinating, though, what I suddenly paid attention to now that I was on crutches. I asked the receptionist and he confirmed that they have two accessible family rooms on the ground floor.
On our way to the second floor of the GHOTEL Kiel, we gathered some first impressions. There were big sitting areas in front of the corridors leading to the rooms. Those were busy, especially in the evenings. Some bigger groups that were booked into the hotel used them to meet and have a sit-down.
Our room
Room 224 was our home for the next two days. The interior was plain and functional. The room was spacious and very clean. We had two single beds that we joint to one double bed. I slept very well. It was very quiet, even with the windows open.
Our bathroom, also very spacious, had a shower. Getting in and out of it proved to be difficult in my current situation. There was no wall or handle for me to hold on to and the sower cabin itself wasn’t very stable in the first place. Anyway, everything looked good and with two healthy feet, I wouldn’t have noticed a thing. There was free and strong WiFi in the entire hotel, including our room.
Breakfast in the GHOTEL Hotel in Kiel
After the really relaxing nights, we were looking forward to some hotel breakfast. What I liked best was that the hotel has two smaller rooms and a winter garden for the guests to sit in instead of one huge breakfast room. This made for a really calm atmosphere and less of a „train station waiting room“ atmosphere.
This was enhanced by the excellent staff. We were in the hands of one of the most friendly and attentive teams I have ever experienced in a hotel. They always had time for a little chat and their planning was also very well thought through. We had one bigger wedding party there with us and they were seated together and had the wintergarden to themselves. Another group of seven got a big table that was reserved for them even though they hadn’t notified the hotel in advance. That is what I call service!
The selection of breakfast foods was very good. We found fruit, scrambled eggs and everything in between we could have wanted. The platters the food was served on were small but they were refilled frequently and even quickly perishable foods like cheese or salmon never looked old. That fueled us well for a day in Kiel. We had a very pleasant stay in the GHOTEL hotel & living in Kiel and we would certainly stay here again.
