The Churfranken region is located in the Main valley between the Odenwald and Spessart. A dreamlike region in Germany that invites you to relax.
Holidays in Churfranken means:
Holidays in a region of pleasure
Here, on the heat-retaining red sandstone soils of the steep slopes, the wine that is a trademark of the region has been growing for many years. Here you will find traditional wine-growing villages with their taverns and farmhouses. Enjoyment is written in capital letters in the region.
Holidays on the Half-Timbered House Road
Another trademark of the region are the many half-timbered houses, which are still beautifully preserved. The half-timbered street, for example, leads through Miltenberg’s beautiful old town.
Holidays by bike
The cycle paths in Churfranken is very well developed. For example, a section of the 600-kilometre-long Main Cycle Path runs directly along the Main. Enjoyable cycling is the order of the day here, which can be interrupted in numerous places with good food and a glass of wine.
Those who like it a bit more challenging can explore the signposted mountain bike trails.
Holiday by foot
There are numerous well-signposted hiking trails in the Churfranken region. From easy short tours to routes that take several days. There is something for everyone here.
Something very special is the Franconian Red Wine Trail, which connects the vineyards over 79 kilometres and tempts you to enjoy the wine estates along the way.
Holidays with culture
The Churfranken region also stands for culture. Here, lovers of castles will find 15 historic buildings over 60 kilometres. For example, one of the largest sandstone castles in Germany stands high above the town of Wertheim, or you can discover the 400-year-old Löwenstein Castle. Lovers of ruins will enjoy the ruins of Wildenberg Castle, for example.

From the witch's cottage to the tower clock, when looking for insider tips for Miltenberg and Bürgstadt, there are some unusual places to discover.
If you walk through Miltenberg, the Mildenburg castle high above the town immediately catches your eye. Even if the way up is steep, it is worth visiting the castle complex.
In Klingenberg, on the steep slopes high above the Main River, lie the vineyards of several Churfranken vintners. The museum vineyard in Klingenberg, which is cultivated by winemaker Anja Stritzinger, can also be found there.
My special tip in the Churfranken region is to visit the Häckerwirtschaft and enjoy wine directly from the vintner.
Obernburg is located at the mouth of the Mümling and Elsava rivers into the Main in the beautiful region of Churfranken. This exposed location attracted the Romans as early as about 107 AD, who built a fort here.
Churfranken is a wine region and the Franconian Red Wine Trail runs along the Main. Here you can not only enjoy a wonderful hike, but also watch the winegrowers at work and discover the local wines in the wineries.
Bürgstadt is a small town near Miltenberg in the Churfranken region of pleasure. On my first day in the region, I set out to discover the town.
From Miltenberg station it is only a few metres until you cross the Main over a bridge. Here on the left side of the Main is the historic old town of Miltenberg.
What luck! The weather cooperated and so nothing stood in the way of a sightseeing flight over Churfranken. It was an experience I won't soon forget.
In addition to very good food and excellent wine, the region of Churfranken also offers drinkable beer from regional breweries. A little beer tasting just before dinner was of course just the thing for me.
Food and drink keep body and soul together - so they say. The food in the restaurants in Churfranken should definitely be taken into account.
