The heart of Brandenburg lies in the district of Potsdam-Mittelmark, a remarkable region that captivates every visitor with its breathtaking nature, historical charm, and vibrant culture.
Just a stone’s throw from Berlin, Potsdam-Mittelmark is a paradise for nature lovers. Here, you can take extensive cycling tours through the wide, gently rolling landscapes or romantic hikes through the dense forests of the Nuthe-Nieplitz lowlands. The Havel River, with its numerous lakes, offers excellent opportunities for swimming, sailing, or fishing.

A large scenic area of the district is defined by the Baruth glacial valley, the Zauche, and the High Fläming (Hoher Fläming). The entire landscape is relatively flat; the highest elevation is the 200-meter-high Hagelberg near Bad Belzig. In addition to large forest areas, you will also find agricultural land used, for example, for asparagus and fruit cultivation.
Three nature parks are located in the region: Hoher Fläming Nature Park, Nuthe-Nieplitz Nature Park, and Westhavelland Nature Park. Famous lakes, such as the Schwielowsee or the Templiner See, characterize the landscape.
In the Potsdam-Mittelmark region, history books seem to come to life. The town of Beelitz, known for its historic sanatoriums (Heilstätten), tells stories of bygone eras. Here, visitors can marvel at the architectural masterpieces from around 1900, which once served as a sanatorium for lung patients. In the charming town of Teltow, the famous Teltow Canal region invites you to a tour of exploration. The canal route is not only a highlight for technology enthusiasts but also for lovers of flora and fauna. In the cultural town of Werder (Havel), the annual Tree Blossom Festival (Baumblütenfest), top-class music events, and a variety of art galleries await the traveler.
