The lakeside promenade in Como isn’t long but it is still well worth a visit. Coming to the lake from the pedestrian area in Como brings you to the jetties with the little boats that cross the lake daily. From here one can walk along the lake in both directions.
To the right, the promenade leads you past more jetties. Here, one can sit along the embankment and enjoy the sun. A little further down is the cablecar station to get to Brunate. Continuing down the bank brings you to the big water feature in the lake in front of the Villa Geno.
To the left lies the undisputably nicer part of the promenade. First, the promenade leads past the Tempio Voltiano. Past the Monumento Ai Caduti, the football stadium and the local rowing club all the way to the Aeroclub.
Take your time to explore. At the Aeroclub, they offer flying lessons and also flights over Lake Como. Watching the floatplanes take off and land on the lake is fascinating. Once the floatplanes enter the water they do a slow lap to heat up the engine. Then, they accelerate until the tiny aircraft lifts out of the water and rises into the sky above the lake.
The promenade continues down to the Villa Olmo and from there the view of the lake is truly wonderful.
We did this walk almost daily. It was particularly pretty at around sunset when it got darker and the lights came on.
