B&B Graanzicht – cozy vacation apartments near the lake
Midwolda is located on the Oldambtmeer, an approximately 800-hectare lake in the Groningen region. Here you can enjoy your vacation at B&B Graanzicht.
From the main street of the village, a beautiful driveway leads to a traditional farmhouse. Under beautiful lime trees we first reach the main house and then follow the signs to the parking lots for the Bed & Breakfast apartments. The apartments are located in the outbuilding.
The Hermans Dijkstra farm, named after its original owner, dates back to 1858 and is one of the most impressive farms in the region and still bears witness to the prosperity of the farmers in the Oldambst Grain Republic.
Welcome to Graanzicht
There are 6 vacation apartments in the former barn building. You enter the building through an entrance door and find yourself in a large and very cozy common room. There is a cozy seating area in front of a fireplace. My first thought …. was to snuggle up in a cozy blanket here in winter and watch the crackling fire …. a dream!
Breakfast is also served in this part of the B&B in the morning. There is a small breakfast buffet, freshly prepared egg dishes on request and good coffee. The ideal start to the day for us!

Our tip: The B&B Graanzicht provides its guests with 6 rental bikes free of charge. We were out and about on the bikes and went on a little excursion.
The apartments
The apartments are all quite large and furnished differently. There are apartments on the first floor and apartments on the upper floor, all of which are designed for 2 people. If required, an extra bed can be added on request.
We were allowed to stay in an apartment on the upper floor. We climbed the typically Dutch, very steep and narrow staircase to the entrance of the apartment. The other apartments on the upper floor are also only accessible via the stairs!
The apartment is really very large and ideal for a longer stay.
The kitchen is fully equipped: Stove, fridge with freezer compartment, microwave, coffee and tea maker (Nespresso machine) and kettle. Of course, there are also enough pots and dishes to prepare your own meals and eat together comfortably.
The bathroom in this apartment was equipped with a bathtub, the apartments on the first floor have a shower. There was also a hairdryer and some toiletries. I particularly liked the cozy bathrobes, which I would certainly have liked to use during a longer stay after a relaxing bath. The toilet is located in a separate small room.
The living area
The bedroom (bed linen provided) can be reached from the living area through a door. I really like the two additional doors, which look like “cupboard doors”. When you open them, you can see into the living area from the bed. The extra long bed was very comfortable and we slept very well.
I felt particularly at home in the central living room of the apartment. There is a dining table, a cozy sofa and the TV. A comfortable armchair with a reading lamp invites you to relax here with a good book. If we hadn’t had so many plans to explore the surrounding area, I wouldn’t have got up here and devoured a thriller or two.
Always particularly important for us – the WLAN! There is free Wi-Fi access at the B&B Graanzicht. It worked perfectly for our way of combining vacation and work.
Don’t feel like cooking?
Don’t feel like cooking on vacation? At B&B Graanzicht you can order dinner in advance from Monday to Wednesday for an additional charge. This can be taken in the apartment, in the Petit Restaurant or in the garden. A 2-course menu or a main course is offered.
From Thursday to Sunday you can also eat in the restaurant of the main house of Hermans Dijkstra (reservation required).
Enjoy the peace and quiet in the garden
A small garden adjoins the former barn. Here you can sit at small tables.
Sheep graze right next to the garden and it is especially nice for us to watch the animals when the lambs frolic across the meadow.
We really enjoyed our short break at B&B Graanzicht – we would love to come back!

Groningen can be reached by car in approx. 20 minutes.
Groningen schnapps distillery in Oostwold – approx. 15 minutes by bike
Boat trip on the Oldambtmeer – boats can be hired in Midwolda (Strandweg 1).
Visit to the Hoogheem Agricultural Museum in Nieuwolda – approx. 15 minutes by car
Shopping in Landwinkel Ol Diek (farm store with regional products) – approx. 20 minutes by car

Are parking spaces available?
There is ample free parking directly at the accommodation. A charging station for electric cars is available.
Is there WLAN?
WLAN is available in all areas and can be used free of charge.
Is there a restaurant?
The restaurant Boerderij Hermans Dijkstra is about 10 meters away. A reservation is required.
