It’s a well-known fact that food keeps body and soul together – if that’s what it takes, the people of Tessel / Tessela must be the most satisfied people in the Netherlands, I’ve never eaten better. The restaurants on Texel have inspired me.
Good food and beautiful locations simply come together on Texel and make the holiday something special. We were able to eat in a few restaurants on Texel and it was a pleasure in every one, which can hardly be described in words.
Restaurant Het Schoutenhuys
We spent the first evening in the restaurant Het Schoutenhuys, which is located in Hotel De Lindenboom in Den Burg. Here you can not only sit comfortably and enjoy excellent beers, as in our case, but also watch the chefs at work.
Sushi, Asian salad lentil curry, Dumpling
“Gerechies” are served in the restaurant. These are small dishes that are combined into a menu similar to tapas. Every month, the restaurant offers a thematic focus, which is also based on seasonal products. You can choose from ready-made menu suggestions, combine your own menu from various suggestions or simply put a selection on the table in a group and try something from each.
During our visit, we enjoyed a 6-course menu that followed the theme of Asia. Each course was accompanied by a matching beer or wine. An all-round harmonious culinary impression in every course!
Texler lamb coconut ice cream, Mango Cream, bacon cake
It started with sushi and Asian salad, dumplings and lentil curry and a wonderful soup and ended with Texler lamb and a dessert of coconut ice cream and bacon cake. We loved the bacon cake so much that we asked the chef for the recipe. He was kind enough to give it to us and if I ever have much time, I will definitely bake it!
Mannen Liefde Texels Skiller Wit
Of course, I photographed a few of the beers I tasted. Each one had an exciting taste and went very well with the food. The beer that stayed in the palate the most – taste-wise, that is – was Texels Skiller Wit, a naturally cloudy beer with a full-bodied finish.

Paal 17 De Eerste Etage
The most unique views are to be found in the restaurants on Texel, which are located directly on the beach. We arrived at Paal 17 just in time for sunset. What a beautiful sight we were able to enjoy! Actually the perfect moment for a romantic walk by the sea or a romantic dinner in the restaurant Paal 17 De Eerste Etage.
The restaurant is located in a winter-proof pavilion with a roof terrace. The ground floor area is separate from the ground floor in culinary terms. There are two kitchens and also different food offerings.
On the first floor, you sit comfortably in a room that can seat a maximum of 50 people at a time. From there you have a beautiful view of the beach and the sea. The open kitchen invites you to watch the cook and who knows, maybe you can pick up a trick or two.
There are multi-course menus that you can put together yourself (3-4 courses are recommended) or you can rely on the really successful compositions of the chef. In this case, you should only think carefully beforehand whether you want to enjoy 4, 5 or 6 courses.
We were treated to a set menu. In addition to small appetisers to start the meal (the homemade crisps were simply awesome in terms of taste!), I was particularly pleased with a dreamy meaty main course and the icy dessert. The entire menu was outstanding in terms of taste and highly recommended.

Restaurants on Texel: Paal 15 Texel
The former Gastropaviljoen XV, now Paal 15 Texel, is located on the dunes behind De Dennen forest. We arrived there already in the dark, the wind and the sand of the beach were blowing strongly around our ears and so we were not very motivated to see anything else of the area.
Rather, we were attracted by the beach pavilion, which is open all year round, with its cosy entrance area. The seating area, even without a fireplace, was just too cosy, so it was almost a “pity” that we were led to a table for dinner. However, at this thought I did not yet know what to expect.
On this evening, everyone was able to put together their desired menu from several suggestions on the menu. Various meat, fish and vegetable dishes were offered as main courses. In addition, guests could choose from a range of starters and desserts, which did not make it easy to choose. I could have eaten just a menu of desserts, that’s how good the menu read.
This evening I chose fish and I was not disappointed. The starters and the main course were a real treat, and my mouth is still watering as I write this. For dessert, I treated myself to a cheesecake with excellent ice cream, a dream! The entire menu was excellently balanced in terms of taste and made me want to dine at Paal 15 again.

Strandpaviljoen Paal 9
Our drive to one of the restaurants on Texel led us through a beautiful landscape towards the sea. Arriving at a huge car park, we were directly at the sea in a few steps. Here we could take a long walk on the beach and finish off with a meal or a coffee in the restaurant, enjoying the view of the beach life and the sea – pure relaxation!
For lunch, we visited Strandpaviljoen Paal 9. A modern restaurant awaited us, where many guests were already seated. Nevertheless, it looked cosy and inviting.
The team at Paal 9 is committed to keeping the ecological footprint of the business as small as possible. This applies not only to the issue of energy supply, but above all to the use of regional products. From ice cream to beef, everything comes from the region.
New for us was the ordering system at Strandpaviljoen. First, we scanned a QR code with our mobile phones, which not only showed us the menu, but also offered us the possibility to order the desired selection directly in a shopping basket assigned to the table, just like in an online shop. It worked really well. Although we ordered from several mobile phones, everything was correctly assigned and it didn’t take long for our orders to be brought to the table. But don’t worry, if that’s too inconvenient, you can of course order directly from the staff.
BROODJES
We chose „BROODJES“ (sandwiches) for lunch. Honestly, the sandwiches were not only huge in size, but also huge in taste. My salmon sandwich consisted of two enormously thick soft slices of white bread topped with so much salmon that just the topping would have been almost enough for me as a complete meal. If the quality of the dinner in this restaurant on Texel is just as good, it is certainly worth the visit.
