We would like to introduce our Top 5 of the most beautiful excursion destinations in the Algarve. The Algarve is a region on the south coast of Portugal. It is one of the 7 Portuguese regions.
In the north, the landscape is characterised by the mountain ranges of the Serra de Monchique. The touristy costal region dominates the south.
Top 5 in the Algarve
1. Monchique Mountains
The Monchique Mountains are the highest point of the Algarve. From here you have a breath taking view of the coast and the inland. On the way, numerous cork oaks can be seen, which are of great economic importance for this region.
2. Silves
Silves is the oldest city in the Algarve. Shoppers can buy the famous cork products of the region on their way through the city. Many beautiful old buildings can be discovered. A visit to the castle grounds is definitely worth it.
3. Faro
The capital of the region is Faro. A city stroll through small streets and along the harbour brings out the atmosphere of that small town. We particularly liked the small houses, lovingly decorated with ceramic tiles.
4. The steep coast
The steep coast of the Algarve is simply unique. Rugged rocks protrude from the sea, and, in the right light, the coastline often looks unreal, and sometimes almost mystical. Very inviting for walks.
5. Lagos
Lagos is a small town with charm and great atmosphere. A visit is definitely worth it!
