This country, which is often overshadowed by its better-known neighbors, surprises and is an attractive destination for holidaymakers looking for authenticity and diversity.

Slovakia is a country in Central Europe, bordering Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine and Hungary. Slovakia has been a member of the European Union and NATO since 2004. Slovakia joined the eurozone in 2009, so you can pay with the euro on vacation here.

With a history dating back to ancient times, Slovakia offers a wide range of cultural attractions. Slovakian cuisine is another attraction for travelers. The
traditional dishes, characterized by hearty aromas and local ingredients, offer an authentic taste experience. From bryndzové halušky (potato dumplings with sheep’s cheese) to kapustnica (sauerkraut soup), the culinary journey through Slovakia is a feast for the senses.

Slovakia is known for its hospitality and the friendliness of its people. Travelers are warmly welcomed and can rely on being helped if needed. Slovakia is also an affordable destination that offers excellent value for money – from accommodation to dining options.

The ZSSK is the Slovak state railroad company. It is the largest provider of public transport. The trains are often uncleaned and made of old wagon material. The comfort is acceptable. On some lines, refurbished trains run with wagons from former GDR stocks. These have been rebuilt and modernized.
Additionally, the Czech provider RegioJet offers train connections from the Czech Republic. The tickets are available at only a few stations at their own counters. The trains are modern and well maintained. The prices are slightly lower than those of the ZSSK.
There are also some smaller regional trains.

ZSSK and RegioJet tickets are not mutually recognized.
