On the Atlantic Ocean, about 500 kilometres from Casablanca, lies the Moroccan port city of Agadir. The city is known for its beaches and is a popular holiday destination not only among foreign tourists.

The city is very modern, so if you are looking for historical places, you won’t find much here. On the other hand, you can spend an ideal bathing holiday here on a large, wide sandy beach.

Agadir beach has a picturesque coastline that stretches for several kilometers. It is a paradise for sun worshippers and water sports enthusiasts. Here you can conquer the waves while surfing, seek thrills on a jet ski or simply feel the sun on your skin while the gentle sound of the ocean soothes your senses.

In addition to the beach, Agadir also has a lively marina, lined with chic cafés and boutiques that invite you to take a stroll. The promenade is an ideal place to enjoy the local cuisine, be it a fresh catch of the day or Moroccan delicacies such as tagine and couscous. Souk El Had, the largest market in the region, offers an authentic shopping experience. Here you will find everything from handmade Berber carpets to beauty products containing argan oil.

In the evening, the city transforms with its numerous bars and clubs that are open until the early hours of the morning. Agadir really is a destination that leaves nothing to be desired – from relaxing days on the beach to exciting nights out.

During our first stay in Agadir, we had already seen pictures of dreamlike sand dunes where you can try sandboarding in Morocco. Anreise

Arrival in Agadir

By plane

Agadir airport is located about 26 kilometers from the city. Many charter and scheduled flights land at the international airport throughout the year.

From the airport you can take a bus (departure outside the airport area about 1.5 km away) or a taxi to Agadir. The taxis have fixed price lists, but the drivers are happy to negotiate. As a small guideline – the trip should cost about the equivalent of 25€.

Those who have booked a package tour are usually transported by organized transfer buses of the organizer.

By car

From Spain you can take a ferry to Morocco. The German driving license is recognized.

The drive to Agadir is possible along the coast, for example.

By bus

There are no trains to the south of Morocco. All intercity connections are covered by buses. These run regularly, you have a fixed assigned seat and the prices are really manageable. For luggage transport you have to pay extra.

On the way in Agadir

By taxi

In the city you go by petit taxis(red cars). The cars are small and often in an adventurous condition. Just as adventurous is the driving style of the drivers. But the rides are quite cheap. Within Agadir the prices are about 10-20 MAD. Small tip – make sure that the taximeter is switched on, this is often “forgotten”.

By bus

The buses are always very crowded, but also really cheap. The city buses often still go far into the surrounding countryside.

Beste Reisezeit

Best time to travel to Agadir

There is a year-round climate with dry heat and quite mild. The average temperature is about 22°C. Due to the location at the sea fresh gusts occur. Therefore, the otherwise hot summer in Morocco is very pleasant and bearable by these gusts.

The bathing season begins at the end of May and lasts until October.

We were there at the end of January/beginning of February. The water was still cold. During the day it became already quite warm, at night it cooled down strongly.
