The Euromast Tower has been towering over Rotterdam for a while now. It was constructed in 1960 on the occasion of the garden show \u201cFloriade\u201d. At first, the tower was designed purely as an observation tower and was only 101 meters tall. At about 100 meters is the so-called crow\u2019s nest with the restaurant. If you fancy staying the night you can do so in one of two hotel suits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n In 1970 an extension to the tower, the Space Tower, was added which increased the height of the whole tower to 185 meters. This piece of the tower carries one of the attractions of the tower: A rotating gondola, the Euroscoop. It is glazed on all sides and rotates as it travels up and down the tower. <\/p>\n\n\n\n For those who like it a bit more spectacular they have abseiling at the tower and also a stairclimbing race where participants climb the 589 stairs to the crow\u2019s nest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It all starts in the foyer of the tower. This is where tickets can be purchased and where visitors find the obligatory gift shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n An elevator takes\nvisitors up to an observation deck. This is the actual highlight of\nthe visit. The glass floor was unfortunately heavily scratched and it was hard to see anything through it. But the view from the window was exceptional. One can really see a lot. I spotted the Erasmus Bridge, the ss Rotterdam, the New York Hotel and saw a lot of the harbour area. When the sky is clear they said one can even see Den Haag at the North Sea coast. But the sky wasn\u2019t clear enough for that during my visit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n During the ride pre-recorded information in different languages about the tower and characteristic locations in Rotterdam plays in the gondola. After about 5 minutes the ride is over. But if that wasn\u2019t quite enough for you just yet, you can always just queue again. \nA gondola awaits that is shaped a bit like a flying\nsaucer. It takes visitors even higher up and offers a fantastic 360\u00b0\nvista.
\nPatrick isn\u2019t exactly a fan of heights so I boarded\nthe gondola alone. Well, not completely alone, the gondola has a\ncapacity of 25 passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
