Exploring Prague on foot is sometimes really exhausting. The distances are often further away than expected. But getting around Prague by bus, metro and tram is no problem at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The public transport network in Prague is very dense and really well developed. Most places in the city are easily accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What public transport is available in Prague?<\/strong><\/strong>

In Prague there are– 3 metro lines (underground)- Metroplan <\/a>-the tram – tramplan<\/a> – Buses,– Ferries across the Moldau,– S-Bahn (Esko)– the funicular railway<\/p> <\/div>

Where do you get the tickets?<\/strong><\/strong>

Tickets can be purchased from orange ticket machines in metro stations, larger tram or bus stations and from newsstands (Trafika).There are no tickets for sale on the tram or bus!<\/p> <\/div>

What tickets are available and what do they cost?<\/strong><\/strong>

The territory of Prague is divided into tariff zones P and 0.Zone P includes the metro, tram, bus lines 100-299, 500-599, cableway on the Petr\u00een, ferries and some selected railway sections.Zone 0 includes the suburban buses on the territory of Prague and selected railway sections.In tariff zone P a ticket costs– for 90 minutes 32 K\u010d (1.20 euro),– a ticket for 30 minutes without changing (30 minutes in the metro and changing is allowed) 24 K\u010d (0.90 Euro),– a day ticket for 24 hours 110 K\u010d (4.10 euros)– Tourist ticket with 3 days validity costs 310 K\u010d (11.60 Euro).The ticket must be validated immediately upon entering the metro station, bus or tram.<\/p> <\/div>

Are there tickets for senior citizens?<\/strong>

Persons between 65 and 70 years of age can obtain a “PID Senior Pass” (available e.g. at the main railway station) for 20,- K\u010d (0.70 Euro), in order to travel through Prague (tariff zone P, 0 and B) at a cheaper rate (about half the normal rate). Proof of age is the EU identity card or passport, a passport photo is required.Persons aged 70 years and older travel free of charge on public transport in the city of Prague. Proof of age is required in the form of an EU identity card or passport.<\/p> <\/div>

Can I buy an SMS ticket?<\/strong><\/strong>

Unfortunately, you can only buy the SMS ticket<\/a> with a Czech SIM card.<\/p> <\/div>

Can I buy a ticket via app?<\/strong><\/strong>

For tourists there is the app “Sejf” for iOS and Android. These can be loaded with smaller amounts of money and then you can buy a ticket.We have not tested this app yet, it is on our plan for a later visit to Prague.<\/p> <\/div>

Watch out for controls!<\/strong><\/strong>

Those caught fare evading the law will pay 800 K\u010d. Those who want to pay later have to pay 1500 K\u010d penalty.It is important that the inspectors identify themselves with their badge or identity card. There are fraudsters who like to cheat tourists out of their money.<\/p> <\/div> <\/div>\n\n\n\n
