The town is really worth seeing and a visit to Loket Castle should not be missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>We had the opportunity to use rental bikes from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cd.cz\/de\/dalsi-sluzby\/pujcovny-kol-cd-bike\/default.htm\">\u010cD Bike<\/a>, which we could pick up at the train station in Karlovy Vary. \u010cD Bike is an offer of Czech Railways and if you have a <a href=\"https:\/\/fromplacetoplace.travel\/czech-republic\/karlovy-vary\/karlovy-vary-region-card\/\">Karlovy VARY REGION CARD<\/a>, you can get the bike 25% cheaper after booking in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can hire a bike at one station and return it at another. The bike is transported free of charge by the trains and can also be handed in free of charge at some luggage storage points at the station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/loket-fahrrad-bahnhof-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Radtour nach Loket\" class=\"wp-image-23563\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We were able to pick up our bikes in Karlovy Vary at the station. Looking for the rental station, we first searched the entire station area. It would have been so easy, we just had to go to the ticket office and show the reservation. From a small room they gave us 2 bikes, 2 helmets and bike locks. Since we had to state our body sizes in advance, the saddles were already correctly adjusted and our tour could begin immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bikes were really great. They ran very smoothly, were easy to shift and the brakes worked great. They were some of the best bikes I have ever received from a rental company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bike tour to Loket &#8211; the outward journey<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I had picked out a route before the start of our bike tour to Loket. The way back should be along the Cheb, but for the way to Loket I had picked another route. You can see the exact course on the map.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\t<div id=\"maps-marker-pro-af9e5257\" class=\"maps-marker-pro\" style=\"width: 100%;\">\r\n\t\t\t<div id=\"mmp-map-wrap-af9e5257\" class=\"mmp-map-wrap\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"mmp-map-af9e5257\" class=\"mmp-map\" style=\"height: 600px;\"><\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"mmp-chart-wrap-af9e5257\" class=\"mmp-gpx-chart-wrap\" style=\"height: 200px;\"><\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n\t\t\n\n\n\n<p>The first 5 kilometers ran through Karlovy Vary and were very pleasant to ride. Then the route went through a suburb and after a while Patrick asked me, if I had looked at the elevation profile of the planned route. I had not, but I would have done it better! It went from now on almost 4 kilometers steeply uphill. At one point there was even an 8% incline &#8211; but in the lowest gear I could manage it with a huff and a red head. And to be honest, I was a bit proud of myself for having managed that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/karlsbad-wanderung-fels-durch-die-berge-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Strecke der Radtour\" class=\"wp-image-23565\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>What you drive up, you also have to drive down again at some point. Yes, and I&#8217;ve learned that you should listen to your technique from time to time. The slope, which we had driven in 4 kilometers uphill, now went 2 kilometers back downhill. And the warning that not the entire path was suitable for bicycles, I had of course ignored in the planning. It went on a gravel path so steeply downhill that we then rather descended and walked carefully downhill. Even without a bike I would have walked this way only very reluctantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>My tip &#8211; the route is really only suitable for experienced riders! If you prefer to take a quiet bike ride to Loket, you should use our return route marked on the map also on the way there.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After about 10 kilometers we were back in the valley of the Cheb River, the last kilometers to Loket were leisurely cycling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/loket-rad-strecke-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"gut ausgebauter Radweg\" class=\"wp-image-23566\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Arrival to Loket<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The historical old town of Loket is situated on a granite rock and is surrounded on three sides by the Cheb River. The name of the town originates from the course of the river, which looks like the bend of an arm with an elbow. Loket, or Elbogen in German, has become one of the most famous tourist destinations in the Czech Republic due to its exposed location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/loket-fahrradtour-ankunft-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Radtour nach Loket\" class=\"wp-image-23568\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We went on a little tour of the place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to discover in Loket<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Our way led us through small alleys to the marketplace of the old town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/loket-stadt-kleine-strasse-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Gasse in Loket\" class=\"wp-image-23574\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is not only a large parking lot, here is also the column with the statue of the Holy Trinity. The town had build the column  1717 in gratitude for being spared from the plague. On the pedestal there are statues of St. Wenceslas, St. Florian, St. John the Baptist, Immaculata, St. John of Nepomuk and St. Sebastian. On the ledge are the archangels Michael, Rafael and Gabriel and on the top of the column is a sculpture of the Holy Trinity with a cross and a star. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/loket-stadt-denkmal-marktplatz-und-rathaus-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Marktplatz von Loket\" class=\"wp-image-23569\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Loket town hall also stands on the market square. The two-storey building was built in 1682-87 and is now the seat of the municipal council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Loket marketplace also became famous for the James Bond film &#8220;Casion Royal&#8221;. Filming for movie scenes took place here in 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/loket-stadt-kirche-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"rote Kirche in Loket\" class=\"wp-image-23570\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>One church in particular caught our eye in the city. The baroque Roman Catholic parish church of St.Wenceslas stands out from the surrounding buildings due to its red color. The construction of the present church dates back to 1701-1734 and is administered by the Red Star Crusaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/loket-stadt-bootsfahrt-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Bootsfahrt auf der Eger\" class=\"wp-image-23571\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The view of the city from the water is particularly impressive. If you go to the other side of the river to the open-air stage, you will find the offshoot of a small boat. A maximum of 10 people fit into the motorboat that takes you about 25 minutes across the Cheb River. If you have a <a href=\"https:\/\/fromplacetoplace.travel\/czech-republic\/karlovy-vary\/karlovy-vary-region-card\/\">Karlovy VARY REGION Card<\/a>, you can take this little tour for free. I found it especially impressive to see the mighty city walls. These date back to the 13th century and surround the entire old town. From the water you can also see Robi\u010dsk\u00e1 and the Black Tower. These towers were built at the beginning of the 14th century and served to secure the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/loket-burg-mauer-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Mauern rund um Loket\" class=\"wp-image-23547\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>From the water you have a good view of the castle of Loket. The castle can be visited and after our visit there, I can only recommend it. If you want to know more about it, you can read more in our article about <a href=\"https:\/\/fromplacetoplace.travel\/czech-republic\/castles-and-chateaus\/loket-castle\/\">Loket Castle<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/burg-loket-vom-boot-aus-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Burg Loket\" class=\"wp-image-23554\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We spent almost 3 hours walking around Loket before we got on our bikes and started our way back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/loket-stadt-fahrradtour-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Radtour nach Loket\" class=\"wp-image-23572\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Leisurely bike ride along the river Eger back to Karlovy Vary<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For the way back I had decided in advance to choose the well-maintained path along the Eger. The route is very pleasant to ride and almost completely flat. Even though the outward route was really exciting and varied, I really enjoyed the quieter route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/loket-rad-strecke-entlang-fluss-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Radtour entlang der Eger\" class=\"wp-image-23578\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We already knew a section of the route from a hike. The trail leads over the wooden suspension bridge past the Hans Heiling Rock. A beautiful natural landscape that you simply should have seen when you are in Karlovy Vary or Loket.
