We love good beer and hearty food as much as vegan food or the “quick” sausage on the hand. We enjoyed the food in Vienna and would like to present some of our visited restaurants.

Hearty food in Vienna: Simmeringer Landbier

Near our hotel was the restaurant Simmeringer Landbier. Here you sit in the rustic ambience of a pub. A small disadvantage for us as non-smokers – you first have to go through the smoking area to enter the non-smoking area. However, this was always very empty, while the smoking area was well attended.

"Simmeringer

Our visit took place with a group of 20 programmers, who clearly preferred the freshly tapped beer on tap to the bottled beer on offer. Especially the freshly tapped house beer was well received.
Food here is very hearty and good. We ate fish and chips and a burger (topped with a wiener schnitzel). Both portions were rich and sufficient for us. It tasted good, very down-to-earth food without much fuss.

"Simmeringer

The price-performance ratio is definitely right in this restaurant. Here, the Viennese who live in the vicinity eat, watch sports together and drink a beer.

HK – myhealthkitchen.com

After so much hearty food, we were almost magically drawn to the next day – the restaurant HK healthkitchen. We were curious to find really healthy food in Vienna.

The restaurant is a self-service restaurant at peak times. When we were there, it was around 4pm, it was quite empty and so we were served at the table.
The menu is heavy on soup bowls. From the Viennese Tafelspitz Soup Bowl to the Japanese Soba Noodle Bowl to the Health Kitchen Power Bowl – you should find something here. For some dishes, you can also choose between tofu, chicken, beef or duck as a side dish. So even vegans or vegetarians can find their meal.

"Essen

After some deliberation, we chose the Caribbean Jambalaya Bowl with Chicken and the Thai Green Curry with Chicken. The food came to the table very hot and was really well seasoned and very tasty. We were very pleased with our choices.

Food in Vienna: Bitzinger – Würstel & Co

What a visit to Curry 36 is for tourists in Berlin, a visit to the Bitzinger sausage stalls is in Vienna. Here you “must” have eaten a sausage.

""/

We walked past the sausage stand at the Albertina several times and at different times – it was always crowded. Never less than 10 people were standing in line and sometimes it looked like a bus had dropped off the tourists right in front of it.

We therefore decided to visit the sausage stand at the Ferris wheel in the Prater. Here it was around noon still quite empty and so we could even get hold of one of the few seats and enjoy our sausages in peace.

"Gutschein

We ate two different types of sausage, each with a freshly cut slice of gray bread. This was accompanied by a soft drink and a Manner wafer for dessert. The sausage was hearty, well seasoned and tasty. As a small snack just our taste.

Not our taste: Schnitzelwirt

On the evening before our departure from Vienna, we were drawn to the Schnitzelwirt. According to reviews from the Internet, you should be able to eat well and reasonably inexpensive.

The ambience of the restaurant was not to our taste: small, cramped, noisy. We were seated at a table of 6 people, quite unfriendly put down the card and later we got unsolicited company from another couple.

The main focus in this restaurant is schnitzel dishes of various kinds. Patrick ordered a schnitzel topped with cheese and I ordered the garlic schnitzel.
We didn’t even have to wait 5 minutes and our food arrived. Actually not such a good sign, because freshly fried food actually needs a little longer.

"Knoblauchschnitzel"

For my choice of food, I would like to apologize today to all my fellow passengers on the plane to Berlin. I had expected some garlic on my schnitzel, but not that it would be served covered with a layer of garlic. I also wasn’t expecting this amount. As many as 5 slices of meat were on my plate – a completely excessive amount in my opinion. I liked the schnitzel, but it was completely covered by the garlic. Patrick was similar to me. He also had 5 slices of meat on the plate, which were covered with a thick layer of cheese. Taste-wise, the cheese dominated and even this amount of food was completely overdone.

Anyone who wants to eat large quantities is in good hands at the Schnitzelwirt. We found the price-performance ratio to be okay, but would prefer to eat more comfortably on our next visit to Vienna and not feel like we had to quickly clear the place for the next guest.

Attention! Card payment was not possible!

Our dining highlight in Vienna: Restaurant Wrenkh

Honestly, if we hadn’t had a voucher for a meal at this restaurant, we wouldn’t have gone to this restaurant for dinner in Vienna because we wouldn’t have seen it while strolling through the city. Tourists hardly seem to stray into this wonderful restaurant unless they are specifically looking for a vegetarian restaurant.

I haven’t had such an excellent meal in a long time and I really appreciate this tip.

"Restaurant

For me there was “hat & stalk & wild garlic” – grilled oyster mushrooms with wild garlic, olive oil and lemon juice and Patrick ate the Styrian happiness salad. Both dishes were fantastically tasted and a real treat for us.

"Wrenkh

The dessert selection also tempted us and so we tried G’wuzelte poppy seed noodles and a mini cheesecake. I am the poppy seed fan at all and this dessert was a dream for me.

Price-wise, the dishes are in the higher middle class range, but honestly, the dishes are really worth the price. We will definitely go here again.

Disclosure:
We received vouchers for our visits to Restaurant Wrenkh and the Bitzinger – Würstel stand, which allowed us to eat for free.
