We also paid a visit to this town during our stay in Venice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Murano is located north of the old city of Venice and consists of seven individual islands that are separated from each other by eight canals. A total of 11 bridges cross these canals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/kirchplatz.jpg\" alt=\"Murano Kirchplatz\" class=\"wp-image-6003\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The city is famous for its glass production.<br>In 1295, all glass furnaces were moved from Venice to Murano for fire safety reasons. However, this was mainly an attempt to preserve the secret of glass production. The glassmakers had to fear the death penalty if they revealed the secret of glassmaking. The glassmakers from Murano were known for their various colouring techniques and the production of cristallo. This colourless Venetian cristallo was the main source of income for the population for a long time.<br>The supremacy of the Murano glassmakers ended in the 18th century when Baroque cut glass became fashionable in Europe, produced in Bohemia and Silesia, among other places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/kanal.jpg\" alt=\"Murano Kanal\" class=\"wp-image-6004\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At the beginning of the 19th century, with the beginning of tourism, Murano&#8217;s glass industry revived. Today, you can find numerous shops in Murano that sell glass works. Besides the industrially produced mass-produced goods, you can also find galleries that sell real objects of art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/kanalblick.jpg\" alt=\"Kanal in Murano\" class=\"wp-image-6005\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After a short stroll along the canals, we also followed the call of glass. Everywhere you can find small glassblowing shops where you can discover traditional craftsmanship. Glassblowers show their skills here and in adjacent shops you can buy some really beautiful products made of glass. The real artists&#8217; products have quite a high price and are really a matter of taste. In many shops, the pieces looked beautiful and tempting. But let&#8217;s be honest, they don&#8217;t fit in most homes visually at all.<br>The typical tourist shops offer something more to the taste of the masses. Despite the industrial goods, I found the prices not particularly cheap. Nevertheless, I couldn&#8217;t resist and picked up some little gems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A trip to the island of the glassblowers is really recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From Venice, boats regularly sail to Murano, a small town located on a group of islands off Venice.
