Hiking in Pottenstein is a wonderful alternative!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The tour started at the small parish church of the town. St. Bartholomew is a Roman Catholic church. The original building dates back to 1493, the tower was built in 1725. After a fire, the church was rebuilt in baroque style in 1755.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/pottenstein-kirche-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Kirche in Pottenstein\" class=\"wp-image-17150\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We followed the road and passed the small market place with the beautiful fountain.<br>Here is also the hotel where we slept well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Pottenstein-Marktplatz-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Marktplatz in Pottenstein\" class=\"wp-image-17151\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Uphill to Pottenstein Castle<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After a few steps we then tackled the small climb to Pottenstein Castle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/pottenstein-burg-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Burg Pottenstein\" class=\"wp-image-17153\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Above the village, at an altitude of 410 metres, lies one of the oldest castles in Franconian Switzerland.<br>The castle is said to have been founded between 1057 and 1070 by the Count of Pottenstein. Originally, it served the purpose of securing the area between Pegnitz and Obermain.<br>The count died in 1104 without any descendants, he had previously sold his property to the bishopric of Bamberg and so it became the residence of Bishop Otto I for a time. Later, the castle served as the residence of St. Elisabeth, Landgravine of Thuringia (1227-1228). A monument in the village still reminds us of this today.<br>With the transfer of the bishopric to the Bavarian state in 1803, the castle began to decline. In 1878, a pharmacist bought the property and restored it. In 1900, the von Wintzingerode family bought the building and still owns the castle today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today there is an inhabited museum in the castle that can be visited. The opening hours can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.burgpottenstein.de\/preiseoeffnungszeiten\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/pottenstein-eingang-burg-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Eingan zur Burg Pottenstein\" class=\"wp-image-17154\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We didn&#8217;t go into the castle, but climbed up a small path right next to the castle grounds to enjoy the fabulous view over Pottenstein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Pottenstein-Burgblick-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Blick auf die Burg Pottenstein\" class=\"wp-image-17155\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hiking in Pottenstein &#8211; off to the adventure rock<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While hiking in Pottenstein, the path led us further to one of the most popular leisure facilities in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-1 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Pottenstein-Sommerrodelbahn.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The Pottenstein adventure rock attracts every age group with its offerings. Leisure facilities such as a summer toboggan run, a summer bobsleigh run, a ride on the witches&#8217; broom, trampolines and of course gastronomy are offered here. In addition, a skywalk attracts visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Skywalk is a 130-metre-long viewing platform that promises a good view over Franconian Switzerland at a height of 65 metres. We weren&#8217;t that attracted to it, we&#8217;d rather try out the various cable cars.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>So we bought a 6-ride ticket, which allowed us to try each ride once. With the toboggan and the bobsleigh, we whizzed down the track. What fun! A visit that interrupted our hike but just made us happy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Address:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Erlebnisfelsen Pottenstein <br> Am Langen Berg 50 <br> 91278 Pottenstein <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.erlebnisfelsen-pottenstein.de\/infos\/preise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Current prices<\/a><br>The site also tells you whether the facility is open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Pottenstein-Skywalk.jpeg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visit to the Devil&#8217;s Cave<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After the short stop, our hike continued to the Devil&#8217;s Cave. The hiking trail through the forest is easy to follow. There were hardly any hikers on the way and so we could enjoy the beautiful nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Pottenstein-Wanderweg-zur-Hoehle.jpeg\" alt=\"Pottenstein\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It is not far to the Teufelsh\u00f6he, one of the largest show caves in Europe with beautiful stalactites. In our article &#8220;The Devil&#8217;s Cave near Pottenstein&#8221; you can read all about our visit to the cave and also see some beautiful pictures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Pottenstein-alte-Bruecke-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Weg von der Teufelsh\u00f6hle in Richtung Pottenstein\" class=\"wp-image-17161\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Way back to Pottenstein<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After visiting the Devil&#8217;s Cave, we walked back along the wide and well-built path that runs parallel to a small lake. This led back to the car park of the adventure rock and to the rock baths on the opposite side of the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Pottenstein-Felsenbad-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Felsenbad \" class=\"wp-image-17162\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Felsenbad Pottenstein has existed since 1926 and is one of the most beautiful outdoor swimming pools in Germany. Originally, there was a 1300 m<sup>3<\/sup> swimming pool and a diving facility built directly into the rock massif. In 1970, the renovation of the rock pool failed due to the costs and the pool closed for several years. In 2001, it was reopened after extensive restoration work. The special feature of this bath is the natural pond, which today invites visitors to bathe instead of the concrete swimming pool. The water is purified in a planted filter basin, so you can swim here completely without chemicals in the visually beautiful outdoor pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, the weather did not allow us to swim here, otherwise we would have definitely gone into the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Pottenstein-Fachwerk-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"Fachwerkh\u00e4user in Pottenstein\" class=\"wp-image-17163\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It is only about 500 metres to Pottenstein from the Felsenbad and when we arrived in the town we ended our little hike in a coffee with Pottensteiner Schuhsohle with ice cream.
