There are so many beautiful places nearby\u2026Chorin Monastery is located in Brandenburg&#8217;s Schorfheide near the town of Chorin in the Barnim district. We decided to go there on the spur of the moment and let a wonderful day come to an end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>About 10 minutes&#8217; walk from the monastery, there are huge car parks that have been set up especially for monastery visitors. Fortunately, there were hardly any cars here, otherwise I would certainly have reconsidered my visit. The parking spaces are necessary, however, because large events take place at Chorin Monastery. There are concerts here, for example, and also a Christmas market.<br>After a short walk along a well-signposted path, you reach the monastery. You can always catch a glimpse of the beautiful building through the bushes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/chorin.jpg\" alt=\"Kloster Chorin\" class=\"wp-image-6054\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Chorin Monastery is a former Cistercian monastery that was built in the early brick Gothic style in 1273. What is striking about the building style is that an attempt was made here to take up architectural styles of large churches and cathedrals and transform them into brick. For example, there are Gothic ornaments that are otherwise rather untypical for monastery buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cistercians had very strict building regulations. Sculptures, paintings and pictures were forbidden in their buildings. Only altar crosses made of painted wood were permitted. Light glass windows could only be installed without crosses and paintings. In 1157 the erection of bell towers was also forbidden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1542 the monastery was dissolved when the then Prince of Brandenburg converted to Protestantism. At the beginning of the 19th century, the monastery began to deteriorate visibly. Karl Friedrich Schinkel took on this building, secured the ruins and reconstructed the buildings.<br>Today, guided tours, concerts, markets and exhibitions are held in the architectural monument. But you can also visit the grounds privately and enjoy the beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text alignwide\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/kloster-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Westgiebel Kloster Chorin\" class=\"wp-image-6057 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>When you enter the grounds of the monastery, you first walk across a large open meadow until you reach the actual building complex. On the lawn, children played, families sat in the sun and enjoyed the day. Finally, a &#8220;trespassing allowed&#8221;!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The monastery building impressed me. The simplicity is a stark contrast to many other church buildings, where one is blinded by glitter and flashing lights in the nave. Here you can feel the peace and the mighty walls have a protective effect.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The area of the nave is open to the courtyard side. Long numbered rows of benches and chairs fill the space. Listening to a concert here on warm summer nights must be really nice!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The beautiful weather then tempted us to visit the monastery caf\u00e9. Organic products from the region are offered here.
