Oberwiesenthal lies directly on the border with the Czech Republic and the Zechengrund nature reserve forms a section of the direct border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
The weather was rather uncomfortable during our stay in Oberwiesenthal, but as the saying goes: there is no bad weather, only the wrong clothes. So we set out for a short hike. You can follow the route well on the map.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\t\t
Our starting point was below the chairlift. There is also a large car park here if you come to Oberwiesenthal by car. From there we walked across the meadow up the mountain. We were able to enjoy the view into the valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
After walking through a residential area, we passed through a leafy colony \/ allotment garden area. The hiking trail is well signposted here and you even find the possibility to take a break at a picnic area. If it hadn’t been raining and you could have seen something more than low-hanging clouds, it would certainly have been a beautiful spot. But as it was, we moved on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Nature reserve Zechengrund<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
After crossing a road, we stood at the “entrance” to the Zechengrund nature reserve. A sign with information provided us with information about flora and fauna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
There is the possibility to walk far into the colliery grounds, a hiking trail is signposted. However, we turned off in the other direction and thus shortened our hike somewhat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
The Zechengrund is one of the oldest nature reserves in Saxony. Since 1912, attempts have been made to realise the first nature conservation efforts here. For this purpose, areas were purchased in order to preserve them in their natural state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
The Zechengrund is characterised by high-montane to subalpine vegetation. Here you can find plant species that are increasingly rare today, such as alpine milkweed or whorled-leaved willowherb. Numerous animal species, such as the adder, the ring ouzel or the white-banded black butterfly, live in the Zechengrund nature reserve. During our little hike, the animals had sought a safe hiding place from the rain, not even a bird could be heard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
After first walking a little through a forest, we came to an open meadow area crossed by the P\u00f6hlbach stream. On the opposite side of the stream is Czech territory. Every now and then you can spot the boundary stones on one of the two sides of the stream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Or you find a sign reminding you that you are in a border area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
When the weather is nice, it must be beautiful in the Zechengrund. We were walking on narrow beaten paths in the meadow, the path was so muddy in parts that it was almost impossible to keep reasonably dry feet. Despite everything, I found the short hike through the area beautiful. A particularly beautiful place was also a small pond with a bench, which we discovered shortly before we went back into the village. Sitting here in the sun and resting, certainly beautiful. For us, with completely soaked shoes, our hike ended at this spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
