{"id":23001,"date":"2023-10-24T10:51:00","date_gmt":"2023-10-24T08:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fromplacetoplace.travel\/?p=23001"},"modified":"2023-10-13T12:26:31","modified_gmt":"2023-10-13T10:26:31","slug":"almond-blossom-in-gimmeldingen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fromplacetoplace.travel\/germany\/rhineland-palatinate\/palatinate-forest\/almond-blossom-in-gimmeldingen\/","title":{"rendered":"Almond blossom in Gimmeldingen in the Palatinate region"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>While in early spring there is usually hardly a spot of colour to be seen in the grey-brown mishmash of nature, in the Palatinate town of Gimmeldingen the splendour of early almond blossom can be admired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/mandelbluete1.jpg\" alt=\"Mandelbl\u00fcte\" class=\"wp-image-6264\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The small wine village, a district of Neustadt an der Weinstra\u00dfe in the sunny Palatinate, has managed to achieve supraregional fame. An almond blossom path invites you to take a stroll and, in good weather, the winegrowers set up their taverns in the countryside and serve food and drink under the delicate pink blossoms of the almond trees, directly in the vineyard. Unfortunately, we could only admire the empty tents on the first weekend in March. But we got an idea of what it might be like on a sunny and warm day.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/ausschank1.jpg\" alt=\"Mandelbl\u00fcte\" class=\"wp-image-6261\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Thanks to the protected climate of the Palatinate, the almond tree grows at all in these latitudes. The Romans already introduced the trees and cultivated them with the wine in particularly favourable locations. The &#8220;Pearl of the Wine Route&#8221; blossoms pink, whereas the &#8220;D\u00fcrkheimer Krachmandel&#8221; blossoms white; both are particularly popular tree varieties in this country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The so-called Almond Trail is an 80 km long hiking trail through the Palatinate, which has its starting and end points in the south at the German Wine Gate in Schweigen-Rechtenbach and in the north in Bad D\u00fcrkheim. The trail is divided into many sections and can also be walked in parts. The Gimmeldinger Mandelpfad is one of them. The path runs through the old town centre past vineyards and beautifully situated houses in the direction of K\u00f6nigsbach. Here, at the same time, an educational wine trail is included, which provides information about the cultivation and production of wine. An enchanting view of the Rhine plain rounds off the excursion. Gimmeldingen invites you to linger and enjoy during this time. If only it had been a little milder and sunnier, we probably would have stayed longer.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vonortzuort.reisen\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/mandelbaum1.jpg\" alt=\"Mandelbl\u00fcte\" class=\"wp-image-6263\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>So if &#8211; like here &#8211; the wine stalls are still closed, you can of course have one of the good drops poured directly from the farm in one of the wine taverns in the village or in nearby Neustadt. Regional specialities are the Gimmeldinger Meerspinne and the Mu\u00dfbacher Eselshaut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For 2016, the big almond blossom festival, in which the winegrowers of the village take part and serve their wine, is still to come; it is one of the big wine festivals of the region. Since the almond trees do not blossom at the same time every year, the date is also never fixed in advance and is determined by nature.
