Caf\u00e9s, pubs and restaurants in Rostock – we tried out quite a few on a weekend in Rostock. Whether ice cream, hot chocolate, beer or fish sandwiches, the food in Rostock has always tasted good to us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Eiswerkstatt Rostock<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the pedestrian zone of the old town, somewhat hidden, we reach the ice cream shop through a passageway. Even if you do not see the small store immediately, it is not an insider tip. A long queue in front of the door already betrays, here one comes gladly!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Eiswerkstatt\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

“The” best seller is the original DDR soft ice cream. The restored GDR soft ice cream machine hardly has a break during opening hours. One ice cream after another is ordered and usually carried out of the store in the wafer shell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on a recipe from 1970, “new” flavors are now offered in addition to the traditional vanilla and chocolate varieties. During our visit, for example, there was nougat vanilla soft ice cream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, the original DDR soft ice cream is one of the most delicious soft ice cream. Sure we got in line and treated ourselves to a little ice cream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

T\u00f6rtcheneck Schwesterherz<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes it’s a recommendation and sometimes just the sight of a name that leads to a visit. In this case, it was the name T\u00f6rtcheneck that lured us to the little caf\u00e9. Doesn’t it promise heavenly cupcakes\u2026?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The T\u00f6rtcheneck Schwesterherz is run by the sisters Maike and Denise. Every day you can eat 5 different cupcake varieties here. The offer changes weekly and so it was almost a pity that we were only one weekend in Rostock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We chose the chocolate cherry cupcake and the blueberry cupcake, which is particularly popular here. At one of the few tables we made ourselves comfortable and enjoyed this sweet sin. For us, a real insider tip on the subject of eating cake in Rostock.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Fishing boat in harbor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

What would a visit to Rostock be without a fish sandwich? Not complete for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you walk along the banks of the Warnow, you pass a few fishing boats. Near the harbor steps, we then “struck” and treated ourselves to a fish roll. Whether maties, baked fish or Bismarck herring the selection has pleased us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So that the Rostock visitor does not have to eat while walking or standing, there are some tables at which you can find a seat at lunchtime with a lot of luck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Restaurant Vienna House Sonne Rostock<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Still in the mood for a beer in the evening? We drank the mildly hopped Mahn&Ohlerich in our hotel. The beer has been brewed in Rostock since 1878 and tastes really good.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ratskeller12 \u2013 Restaurant<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Looking for a meal in Rostock in a more upscale location? Visually, we liked the Ratskeller12 very much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We didn’t eat at the Ratskeller, but what we saw on other visitors’ plates looked good. We liked the Rostocker, a tangy feinherbesPils, which we drank there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FISCHBRATK\u00dcCHE (FISH ROAST KITCHEN) in Rostock Fish Market<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Rostock fish market is located a bit outside and you can reach it quite well by streetcar and a short walk. Here you can buy fresh fish caught by local fishermen every day. The offer varies depending on the season and can be bought fresh or smoked, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, our actual destination was not the fish store, but the FISCHBRATK\u00dcCHE, of which we had heard that you can eat good fish there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Eingang<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The restaurant is reached by walking between two large halls in the direction of Warnow. Behind an inconspicuous door is the self-service restaurant. It gets very crowded here at lunchtime, but you shouldn’t let that deter you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are two order counters that have slightly different offerings. At the “normal” counter, the guest gets many different dishes from fish soup to fried fish. We went to the second ordering counter, where the food for the “hurried visitor” is offered. The offer is a little less, but not less good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After our order we received a small fish with a number. This was then later loudly called so that we could pick up the food. In the meantime, we could look for a seat. From the large upper guest room, which on me rather the charm of a canteen sprayed, you can look directly on the Warnow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We ate baked fish with fries. The fish was fresh, the fries good and the mayonnaise great – we liked it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rostocker Kaffee- und Kakaor\u00f6sterei<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the IGA Park in the district of Schmarl, we passed the Rostock coffee and cocoa roasting plant on our way to the Rostock museum ship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Kaffeer\u00f6sterei<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Here you can sit outside and enjoy the view of the river. A good reason for a break. With a hot chocolate and a coffee. The drinks here are not exactly cheap, but tasted good. However, I would have liked a service at the table at this price. Here, however, you have to get your order yourself and also clear the table alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have some money left after the small expensive coffee, the caf\u00e9 has freshly roasted coffee and various chocolate products that you can buy there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Food in Rostock: Restaurant Kogge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Kogge restaurant is located not far from the city harbor. From the outside, the red corner house does not give you a clue as to what awaits you in the restaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kogge is not a restaurant in the conventional sense. Here you sit in the lower or on the upper deck. There is even a captain’s room where groups can find a place. On the walls there are seating niches in the form of bunks. This is where you should tuck your head in when you sit down.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

We found a place at a large round table. Here, a large compass is embedded in the center of the table. Everywhere on the walls hang decorative pieces that have something to do with the sea and seafaring. Whether prepared fish, coins from other countries or lifebuoys in the cog, we had the feeling of being in a completely unknown world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The restaurant has been around for about 150 years and the counter of the house is said to be just as old. The cuisine is certainly not that old, the menu told us that traditional dishes are gladly interpreted in a more modern way here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had an excellent fish soup that had more chowder than broth. Patrick chose “Rainer’s Matjes”. Matjestartar with cream horseradish is served on a potato pancake. I tasted and can only say, “Wow!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We liked it there very much. Who would like to eat in the cog but should rather book a table in advance. There is always something going on here and you only get a table outside the usual meal times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
