Since 1990, it has been listed on the list of UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage and is managed by the Stiftung Preu\u00dfischer Schl\u00f6sser und G\u00e4rten Berlin-Brandenburg \u2013 a foundation for cultural property and parks in Berlin and Brandenburg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fromplacetoplace.travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/05\/schloss-auf-der-pfaueninsel.jpg\" alt=\"Pfaueninsel - Recreation in the big city of Berlin\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Friedrich Wilhelm II bought the island in 1793. Visible from afar is the white castle built in 1794 with its distinctive towers. Characteristics of the island mainly are the carefully designed gardens and its very old trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The small island of 67 hectares is well accessible by public transport. A small ferry takes you to the island. You pay for the ferry ride (not very much though) but no admission fee for the island. Only if you would like to visit the castle and the dairy, you should set aside some money for additional entrance fees. For the protection of the island, there is a very strict parking system, a gross violation is punished with banishment from the island.<br>Prohibited are e.g. Dogs, other animals, bicycles, inline skates, skateboards.<br>The entire island is a non-smoking area.<br>Leaving the paths, fishing, bathing and making fires is also prohibited.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A beautiful circular route runs across the entire island. It leads the visitor past the most important points. The real attraction, however, are the free roaming peacocks on the island. These are not particularly shy when it comes to humans and so it is possible to get very close to the birds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/fromplacetoplace.travel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/05\/Slider.jpg\" alt=\"Pfaueninsel - Recreation in the big city of Berlin\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A trip to this small relaxing oasis in the city of Berlin is very recommendable. A small walk across the island makes you almost forget that you are in the middle of the city.
