Vacation region of Oberhavel
The district of Oberhavel is located in the north of the federal state of Brandenburg. The upper course of the Havel River flows through the area from north to south and has given the district its name.
The Brandenburg district of Oberhavel is located north of Berlin and offers a quiet alternative to the big city without being far away. The proximity to the capital also makes the region attractive for short breaks. At the same time, there are cultural sights and charming places to discover in the region itself that combine history and nature.
Oberhavel is characterized by a water- and forest-rich landscape that is perfect for nature lovers. The region includes parts of the Schorfheide and Westbarnim, which are ideal for hiking and cycling. Lake Stechlin in particular is a highlight for many hikers and nature lovers. With over 3,000 lakes in Brandenburg, the region also offers numerous opportunities for water sports, swimming and boat trips.
In the Oberhavel vacation region, you can not only hike and cycle, but also experience exciting water adventures. Whether by houseboat, raft or canoe – the region invites you to discover nature from the water. You can observe animals such as herons and beavers. For families and active vacationers, there are numerous leisure activities that combine relaxation and adventure.
The district of Oberhavel offers a variety of cultural highlights. The highlights include, for example:

Vacation region Oberhavel – excursion tips
In the fall, a hike took us from Lübars in Berlin across the state border into Brandenburg's Mühlenbecker Land region and back to Lübars. The route was almost 16 kilometers long, but can certainly be shortened or extended.
Some destinations leave you with more to think about than others. Our excursion to the Holocaust Memorial and Museum Sachsenhausen was one of the most moving tours I have experienced in the recent past.
Nieder Neuendorf is a town to the northwest of Berlin and characterised mostly by residential houses, a church and a few shopping facilities. And it is also home to one of the last remaining GDR watchtowers.
