The topic of wine, vineyards and winemakers was not in our focus for a long time, until I got a taste for it. To enjoy the wine directly from the winemaker, that is something quite different than buying a bottle in the supermarket.
In the meantime, we prefer to drink the “drink of the gods” directly on site or in the immediate vicinity of the vineyard. A visit to the winemaker, a look into the wine cellar with its treasures and the expert explanations have brought me much closer to the subject of viticulture. Especially the smaller winemakers produce wines that cannot be compared with supermarket goods from large producers. They are usually more mature in taste and full-bodied.
There are 13 major wine regions in Germany that could not be more different. Besides lots of wine, the regions offer opportunities for relaxation, some culture and of course activities from kayak tours to hang gliding. Actually perfect for a relaxing and varied vacation.
The variety of the offer is almost infinite… the tastes so different … there are so many growing areas and winemakers to discover….
Wine and wine growing areas in Germany
Discover the wines in the wine regions of Ahr, Baden, Franconia, Hessische Bergstrasse, Middle Rhine, Moselle, Nahe, Palatinate, Rheingau, Rhinehesse, Saale-Unsrut, Saxony and Wurttemberg.
The steep slopes of the Rhine and Moselle are known for the excellent wines produced there by many winegrowers. Due to its location on both rivers, Koblenz can score with regional wines from both growing regions.
In Klingenberg, on the steep slopes high above the Main River, lie the vineyards of several Churfranken vintners. The museum vineyard in Klingenberg, which is cultivated by winemaker Anja Stritzinger, can also be found there.
My special tip in the Churfranken region is to visit the Häckerwirtschaft and enjoy wine directly from the vintner.
Churfranken is a wine region and the Franconian Red Wine Trail runs along the Main. Here you can not only enjoy a wonderful hike, but also watch the winegrowers at work and discover the local wines in the wineries.
Wine hikes
Since we like to move very much and not only like to drink, we now simply combine both topics and undertake wine hikes that lead from one vintner, from one vineyard to the next growing area. What could be better than enjoying a good drop of wine directly in the vineyard or stopping off at a vintner’s at the end of a hike? Good food and a fine wine simply belong together.
Churfranken is a wine region and the Franconian Red Wine Trail runs along the Main. Here you can not only enjoy a wonderful hike, but also watch the winegrowers at work and discover the local wines in the wineries.
